A few days ago our beloved, furry child Boomer left this earthly existence to pursue wiley squirrels amongst the clouds and through endless meadows. He was part of our family for 12-1/2 years. Every day of his amazing dog life, he had just one focus: his people.
He went from this world to the next as we held him in our arms. We tear up and weep uncontrollably when we see the places in the nearby hills and in our home that we shared with him during his final days and hours. And yes, this really happened after his passing: on a couple of occasions, my wife and I thought we heard his collar jingle and his toenails tick-tick across the floor.
To say we are left with a hole in our hearts is a tremendous understatement. And we know that time will heal our hearts.
We have five wonderful children and five (soon to be six) adorable grandchildren who shower us with love. We are rich in love. But we know we are going to be hurting for a while nevertheless.

Unfortunately I had a loss too although I hope somebody in the area took him in. Maharishi Yogi got out one night and has been missing since. Over a week now I combed the area, put up signs and a post on the online neighborhood billboard. Losing hope now. He was a little too smart and would peal open screens to get out. He was a good cat just a little crazy. His brother spent a week walking around the house looking and crying for him. Who knows maybe he will still make it back, stranger things have happened. I gotta admit I do miss the entertaining cat fights.
Thank you all for your kind words and condolences. My wife and I are frankly surprised by the impact of Boomer's passing. But we've been empty-nesters for about as long as Boomer was with us, so the depth of our grief is starting to make sense.
The other day, surely as some form of self-administered therapy, I did some doodling with an online AI-driven image generator. I described in typed-out words how Boomer had been a star in our lives, and what we imagined he was now doing. These are some of the images that came back...
Silly, I know, but therapeutic nevertheless.
