We have accumulated a bit of a memorial in our home to celebrate the lives of our five departed canine family members. Cremains, plaster-of-paris paw prints, fur clippings, collars/tags, coats, and favorite toys. My wife says she wants to be buried with these things, but I think she may have forgotten that she also wants to be cremated.

It helps. Leashes from our three previous dogs with one for the living.

You know, I just noticed this when I took this picture. Next to the leashes are my parents hats; the military cap was my dad's and the tan cap was worn by my mom when she did her tour guiding. I never picked up on this placement.

We are so happy that we decided to keep our dearly departed old boy, I have to admit that initially I did not see the point but a little gentle persuasion from the love of my life and the rest is history. Every day I give his urn a cuddle and remember all the lovely times together 🥰

One of the best decisions we made too.

Despite youngster going through his procedure he is still capable of stealing my seat 😀, a few more days yet before he is allowed to remove his little suit.

Sometimes these guys don’t look like they should be comfortable in these weird positions but their spines are built for crazy contortions

Old boy was booked in later in the week but had another rough night so we got an emergency appointment. He is a long way off his prime as the old photo shows but he is still magnificent and we are very proud of him. A few yowls but he was otherwise fine on the trip and handled himself like a true gentleman at the vets, she said it was amazing the more control and trust they give him the better he behaved and the less he struggled. He never put a claw out but did look for an escape route at one point and tried to reprogram her computer. He has had a short term pep up and now we wait for results and see our options (paws crossed) I think he knows when he needs help. All stable for now / we all need some sleep tonight. Later on he and Molverine were on good terms / it’s like she knows to go easy. Her collar arrived today. She took to it really well and we are hoping it will make any kind local people less likely to offer her food …. As she needs to loose weight. She is taking the Old boys original appointment for a weigh in and check-up later in the week. Not sure if our new family member will be such a good patient…..
.
Oh boy sounds like he has having difficulties. I hope for the best. He’s not that old yet. Now taking wolverine to the vet should be interesting as she appears perhaps part feral. Sometimes when they get in the vet they are so overwhelmed they are easy patients but getting her into a cage and a drive should be interesting. I hope for the best for them both.

The brothers Grimm biggest issue right now is an insatiable appetite, I don’t mind I let them eat but I make more trips to the store for them than I do myself

Old boy was back in today for another pick-me up. We should get more info tomorrow. He seems better now after an improved but not perfect night. He was a star again today, taking injections and waiting dogs and cats in his stride. Two days on the trot and he did give me The sh-t eye a bit in the examination room. He has been super impressive but I agree @Walrus the strange atmosphere can help. She is up tomorrow. Having been moved around I suspect she is familiar with cat baskets, and not in a good way so we shall see…….

I’m sure you have noticed and it’s similar with dogs but perhaps more noticeable with cats. You can tell they are not well by looking at/touching their fur. You can’t diagnose anything of course but back when sooper dooper was still alive I learned to adjust her meds and IV by her fur.

True for most mammals. Grooming behavior goes when they are really down. Piloerection (hairs standing up) is also a sign of pain.

It is a shame they can’t talk but I think he knows we are doing our best for him. He has eaten a bit and the cat god smiled so we had some sunshine and he was able to chill out a bit with us PM today / he always loves that. Hopefully things settle overnight and tomorrow brings better news. Somebody might have tipped off Molverine she is due a trip… but that is just a practice run.

@Walrus
The Molverine was pretty good. Sang to me all the way there and all the way back but no claws and let the vet do her thing. All good and only slightly overweight so it is all fur. She is still giving me ‘the look’ now we are back but not too bad for a first vet and car trip. There were a few dogs and a Maine Coon on a lead you would have loved. All the furry company did stop Molly singing at least / she kept a low profile.
Old boy is still stable. Trying to get a balance on the usual stuff plus he has an infection. He seems to be fighting it off now with the help of the meds. Next challenge is to find a balance for him and get him eating better. Lots of TLC and a few more tests but hopefully we have a route for him based on all feedback provided he keeps responding well to treatments 👍.

I think it’s when they aren’t eating properly the coat quickly looses its sheen

oh snap good thing she didn’t do the nail thing that used to scare me with sooper dooper. Glad to hear old boy bouncing back I’ll send positive cat waves your way we need a break from bad news. I demand all animals remain healthy and content at least through the summer, I’d like to push it further so let’s say the year.

Her face says it all. Play time was done because it was time for her to eat. She didn’t quite feel the same way.

This is Pipper.
Her owners told us she's a therapy dog and visits schools where the children are delighted by her.
I picked her up, she barely budged and wasn't at all impressed by my AT.
