Here I am nearly 30 years ago as a young plainclothes police officer. I delivered this cougar to a zoo and the person responsible for big cats (cougars are not considered big cats) freaked out when she saw me handling it this way. They did not trust cougars at all. The cougar had been kept illegally as a pet and the neighbourhood parents were understandably concerned. I had better hair back then. Now I have better shoes, watches and judgement!

Since we are on the subject… I posted this here about 2600 messages ago. I am not sure why I obscured my face. I am way better looking now! At least that’s what my wife tells me. She may need glasses!

Great picture and story (and you went unarmed :0)... just dont bend down and tie up your shoelace...
I had contact with a guy who kept big cats / was looking to set up a sanctuary .... He said the female Tiger would protect him from the Pumas... He was always cautious with them / never showed them his back. A lady got too close to the bars once and a 'cute' puma took a cigeratte out of her mouth with a claw swipe. If she had not moved her head back she would have got shreaded / they move quick and can be very feisty.

Hairy came down to great me again. Can’t make in in the house. My wife said she started going crazy when my car pulled up she let hairy out to meet me. I was of on a side path looking at some seed I planted but she found me in five seconds. Nice to be greeted so friendly when you arrive home. My wife waited inside of course

Neo made a new friend at the park 😀 ... 9 years difference
Neo has great taste. That white fluffy dog is very pretty. No offense meant if the dog is the same sex, neo is cool however he chooses to live.

The neighbor "kitty" came to visit. Do you think she would like some pets?

Ah, ma cherie! You are very shy, n’est-ce pas? But it is love at first sight, no. 🥰

Damn when my Shepard was alive she had a thing for skunks. She could not leave them alone and would just attack. She grew up with two cats so she never minded cats but if she saw a skunk, it was on. I was walking her one day, I was watching traffic and a skunk came out of the brush on my far right, she lunged so quick and strong, I was unprepared we both got sprayed. I used to hate cleaning that skunk spray off her, that day I had to clean both of us. It was like a mile and a half walk home. We passed a couple people close enough to get some weird looks with the poor doggy sneezing and trying to rub her eyes and me just generally miserable. She must have got sprayed 5 or six times in her life.

Our dog really wanted to go out and play, but we didn't let her. I think our skunks are pretty calm though, because she has gone out and barked at them without getting sprayed. I have only smelled thier spray once and it wasn't on our dog. The skunk didn't mind get pretty close to us. It was probably 20 ft (6m) but that is close enough to a skunk for me.

Wait what color is old boy? I could have sworn he was brown but he looks grey in that photo. Does old boy has some strange superpower? I actually looked back at some of your other photos and am surprised.

Yeah I was surprised how close I have gotten to them on solo hikes. They certainly don’t seem to have a trigger finger with that spray but I can attest it has mace like qualities is is very oily. Quite an interesting defense system I must say.

So I gotta ask if cougars aren't considered big cats what do the professionals call them? How were your interactions with the fellow? Was he used to people and friendly? Did you pat him between the ears? Did you bring a lot of food so he didn’t get hungry and want to eat you? Darn I got too many questions but I’m gonna take a wild guess and figure he was somewhat docile if human raised but my assumptions are usually not good.
No need to obscure your face we all know you look like Hunter S. Thompson in your avatar. It must have been difficult doing undercover police work when you look like a famous person.

Hi Walrus, Puddles / old boy would be considered a black cat.... which as you probably know is brown. Different cameras, ambient light, flash and exposures enhance his tone differences but his colouring does vary during the year and as he moults. He is getting some grey now with age (not that much grey :0). He has been sunbathing a lot (as has the evil one) and they have both ‘rusted’ to light brown in places. The younger black and white female has kept straight black. The bed shot above I changed to black and white from colour because it was a dark night shot from a phone without flash. The colour version is atmospheric but not my best work. A black cat on a white sheet in black and white at night just shows up better :0).

Here is a colour / raw example from last night....using my wife as a pillow again. She does not want to feature on the inter web,... even more so at bedtime so focus and cropping reflect that :0)

Thanks, the world is back in order, I did not notice the back and white shot, I forgot we go noir, how stupid of me.

Youngster with his travel bag at the ready keeping an eye on our daughters whilst they load the car for a short camping holiday.

I must confess I really do miss him when he is not around.

Well he is certainly well taken care of with his Fortnum & Mason's kit...
