People bringing dogs home and are not ready to really take care of them?

That is why I have 13 of them.
Thirteen, damn feeding time must be a frenzy. Are you in Alaska and running a sled?

I LOVE dogs and I really want one. I’m newly married and bought a house with my wife. She likes dogs and finds them cute but is worried about raising a child around a dog in a small house. Also, we both work 9-6 on weekdays and are planning on travelling away from home fairly frequently.

Any advice from you experienced folks about getting a dog? Should I listen to my wife and not get one until we have a baby and the baby turns 3-6 years old? Or, do you have any advice which I can use to convince my wife into getting a dog?

We love our dogs, and I can't imagine being without one (or two) but they do put limitations on life to a point. We don't have children (no interest thanks) and I work from home, so someone is here with them during the day, but for extended travel, it can make things difficult. We spent 5 weeks in Australia earlier this year, and we only had one dog at the time, and he split his time with two other people who agreed to look after him. In the past we have tried to get people we know to come and live in the house with the dog, so they are both dog and house sitting.

If you have a wide network of people who you think would help with these situations, it might be easier, but we often struggle to find someone to look after the dogs even for a day or so when we want to take even a short trip that the dogs can't come on.

And speaking of children, I can't say what the right age is to bring a dog into the home, but I can say that when my nephew brings his kids around at Xmas or whatever, our dogs hate it. The small kids don't know when to stop sometimes, and I'll often find one dog off on his own hiding from them...

Mike is the most gentle dog I have ever seen.

My cat Jack, 17 yrs old, still plays like a kitten, and sleeps on my pillow, at the foot of the bed or under the covers on the colder nights.

There is a study out that young children, even babies are healthier later in life as they are exposed too certain bacteria and things children without dogs aren’t helping build their immune system. It was actually a good sized study but I’m going from memory and can’t give exact figures. I made that error about the British navy and number of boats and was way off but someone quickly jumped in and seemed to take joy in pointing out my error on that one. Another gentleman saw my error and sent me a very nice pm explaining it. The other dude was quite quite happy to post it here. I just like to test my memory without using google sometimes. Anyway the dog thing was an interesting study but anyone can feel free to correct me if my memory is failing again.

Looks like a very sweet kitty, but something tells me there is a bit of naughtiness in this one. Reminds me of a Siamese cat we once had.

Our little Siamese was the sweetest cat ever, but she loved to jump up on counters so that she knock things off of them (pencils, papers etc.). Once she put her little paw on the edge of a full glass of water, looked at us, and then tipped it over. She was so naughty, but in a funny way.

Her - "Hey, watcha doing?"

Me - "Oh, just browsing my all-time favorite watch forum."

Her - "Well stop doing that, I want to play. Now!"
