Fantastic 'Talking Watches' segment on Hodinkee this week. http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/with-jason-singer-video Should be of particular interest to the many vintage lovers on OF. I'm sure many of you have already watched this, but thought I'd post it for those who may have missed it.
definitely worth watching. jason's collection is...unbelievably special. he's up there with goldberger. i really hope he wears some of them.
Some really serious stuff there. Not even sure where to start with what his most desirable pieces are. Just too many grail watches.
A collection of Rolex and Patek Philippes - very American. I thought that he seemed like a really great guy, but it wasn't a collection that made me swoon.
Well, some of those vintage PP chronos and triple date moon phases would spice up many a collection, as would that gold 6542 (and the steel one as well), the 8171, the 6265/8, the PN (not my fave but many love them), and o and on. If that does't make you swoon i would love to see the vintage pieces that would.
Ha. No way! Jason's is the best I've ever seen (from photos; regrettably I never got to meet him, though we had tentatively arranged to when I was in the Phoenix area a few years ago), with some truly rare dials in pristine condition. And I was only vaguely aware of his Patek obsession before...
Hate to play "gotcha" with someone who knows far more than I, but Wig-Wag was not the first automatic wristwatch. The Harwood bumper automatic was. Rolex even admitted in a famous advertisement: http://www.harwood-watches.com/en/history/index.html To be fair, I think Mr. Harwood was also involved at some level with the Wig-Wag movement. gatorcpa
Absolutely. I had never really thought about bubblebacks before but now I have an irrational desire to own one. Plus an even more irrational desire to have a Patek 3448 in WG, though I suspect that will never come true in my lifetime.
The bubblebacks have always looked very interesting to me, but I have never done any serious research into them. How much are they going for nowadays?
Though not as much as in their 1990s "bubble"...their values range quite a bit depending on originality, condition, and rarity of the dial, and solid gold and hooded models go for more than steel, generally. Also case and bezel condition factor in. Most, if original, are in the 2000-5000 range. Jason's, however, are not "most"!
