Is it just me, or has this Speedy 145012 recently sold on Hodinkee got different sized pushers???
They should be more careful..As they have in description “pushers appear to be correct..”

Different pushers for certain! Top one looks like a 105.012 pusher...

Not the first time I saw "incorrect" watches - and described as correct - on sale for a hefty price on high-end vintage watch webshops. It is not only Hodinkee sadly...
But for sure this one is a big mistake. Not the kind of detail you could miss...

Raises such an interesting question: you are probably correct, of course. But could it be that we, as either experts or pseudo-experts, know and are more sensitized to errors in this particular model of watch, than the sellers who deal with so many different brands, and couldn't possibly know all the nuances of each? Mind you, in this case, I agree, and this is totally sloppy...

And they couldnt even be bothered to correct the bracelet -one of the links ( near 12 o/c) is the wrong way round

For some reason, most of their mistakes seem to be with Omega - some of the connies especially, seem to be poor examples and dont sell quickly

It’s amazing how everything on there eventually sells.

Saw that too but it is even worse. The link is wide open and I think it rotated when they took the watch for the photoshoot.
There are aslo some deep scratches on the glass (huge one next to 11, look almost broken; and at 9)

@M'Bob small errors on models sold around $2k could happen. But on a $10k+ they must ensure everything is correct, especially when we are talking about well known and well documented brands: they are mostly selling Rolex, Omega, UG, Breitling. These are not exotic watches...
Above 10k these shops should even provide an a extract of archive. It is 1% of the price but can increase the value a lot more than that.
For example, they sold an Ultraman: they just guess it was a true Ultraman because the number is on the correct range and the second hand is orange. No mention about the hand beeing checked as the correct model (it could come from several others and the size is slightly different). So basically, they only did checks that I can do myself while fishing on ebay or chrono24... The extract of archive would have validated the $3k more they are asking against standard 145.012.

If you want to play in the high-end market and ask for premium price, you must come with a premium service. That is where your added value is. For most of these shops, it is not the case.

My experience has been that most of these dealers buy watches based on superficial knowledge, give them a light cleaning and list them ASAP for sale. Do not trust anyone when it comes to verifying your purchase. Do your due diligence.

I think some brands/shops/dealers will reach a point of complacency, as mentioned, once they get it, they sell it asap.

They leverage on their brand name to do short cuts.

I think it’s a given that some hard core nerds will always know more than a retailer dealing in volume and variety.

The ongoing issue with the ‘dink, is it’s use of hyperbole.

That said, it doesn’t seem to put their customers off. So as long as everyone involved in the transaction is happy... meh? ::popcorn::

    This is an aside...

I went to a vintage Rolex event at a local jeweler this weekend. I wasn’t expecting much, but what I saw was so awful...

Zenith Daytona with the wrong pushers...the threads extended 4mm past where they should have...$26k

1675 PCG with Long E Mk1 dial, service hands, service insert, and polished case...$20k

16750 with great patina...service hands, insert, aftermkt crystal, polished case...$17500

1680 Red mk5 with service hands, service insert, polished case with huge chunk out of inner lug...$26k

5513 L series...polished case, aftermarket cystal, thin font service insert...$12500

Varying others with service inserts, hands, all with polished shit cases, one GMT had a shitty fake insert.

All in all is was a total joke...all of the watches were shit and so overpriced it was a shame.

The dealer whose watches it was chose to walk away when he heard me talking to the sales person in 4 digit codes.

So sad that some people would buy such trash.

Hodinkee has been selling watches that are not 100% what they claim for years. Or should I say, they know what they are/aren't but they just don't tell it to your face.

Plenty of watches with wrong replacement parts have been sold by them.

Sad but people still buy them (probably those that are not purists/knowledgeable).
