Wondering what members think of this 2998-6 that Hodinkee put up for sale Wednesday and which moved very quickly. At a price of $28,900, this is usually the kind of quick sale that only H's vintage Rolexes command.

I think it will look better in hand (white box photography is usually extremely unflattering) and is probably very nice in hand. I think for a soft market that’s an ok price, but still undervalued (find another, attractive like that, at that price). I think you can’t compare Rolex…there were only about 8000 2998s ever made, and any Rolex at this price were produced in the 100k to 1000000’s in volume.

Nice example, priced well (even low IMO).
Market ain't soft at all. The good stuff sells, and sells well.

The case on this watch has been (incorrectly) polished.
Vintage straight lug Speedies never had polished facets. They were originally brushed.
