September 1965... post-flight Gemini V, astronauts Charles Conrad and Gordon Cooper boarded a plane to leave Cape Canaveral Florida for the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston Texas. Astronaut Charles "Pete' Conrad, more than probably the first astronaut with a tattoo to fly in space described the mission as " 8 days in a garbage can "...
On Gemini V, a total of 5 watches were worn, in addition to the NASA-issued Omega Speedmaster (Conrad wore 2), Cooper wore his personal Accutron Astronaut microsonic GMT pilot watch and Conrad wore his personal Glycine Airman automatic GMT pilot watch...

October 3, 1962 first Omega Speedmaster in space
Just before the web will be flooded with 2020 Snoopy award Speedmaster stuff & advertising, let's remember the Sigma-7 mission...
Astronaut Wally Schirra had chosen to wear his personal Omega Speedmaster CK2998 chronograph on the 9 hours 13 minutes mission. This colourful impression clearly shows the 321 Omega chronograph at his left wrist, the iconic Omega watch would become known as the FOIS - First Omega In Space.
Wally Schirra kept using his CK2998 during Gemini training and even wore it during SCUBA diving in his pool !

any picutres from the "Tesla Expedition"?

Bob and Doug wearing their X-33's on the ISS during Expedition 63.

NASA image from NASA website of ISS images.

Bob did 4 spacewalks but his watch wasn't visible in the few photos I saw of him during the walk. He and astronaut Cassidy performed the EVAs together.

Note Apollo 15 commander David Scott wore his NASA-issued Omega Speedmaster chronograph with 60 minutes bezel... an easy to read practical bezel which was recently re-issued by RadialProject.com

November 1969... Apollo 12 Moonbound !
Photo showing great details of the NASA-issued Omega Speedmaster chronograph #57 with reference 105.012 for astronaut Richard Gordon, which he wore as Command Module Pilot on Apollo 12... Gordon remained in orbit while Alan Bean & Charles Conrad stayed 32 hours on the Lunar surface, collecting 34 kilograms of Moonrocks & samples.
US Navy Captain Gordon passed away on monday 7th November 2017, aged 88. R.I.P.
Great dial and I like the way the applied logo can be seen and the curls in the velcro ...

Not a NASA photo but an article I wrote in 2000... about the first Japanese citizen in space, TBS TV journalist Toyohiro Akiyama
During training, Akiyama wore a reverse panda dial Tudor big block 79160 chronograph but actually wore a Russian Shturmanskie 31659 military chronograph during his 7 days 21 hours mission...

54 years ago... Jan 27, 1967... RIP Apollo 1 astronauts
It's interesting to take a look at the official NASA Apollo 1 crew portraits in which it's clear that Roger Chaffee only got his NASA-issued Omega Speedmaster later then Grissom & White did... the Apollo 1 crew portraits were taken on April 1, 1966.
Of course, Chaffee was later selected (NASA Group 3 in October 1963) and we see him wearing a white dial wristwatch in early training photos such as this one taken in June 1966... Any ID on this wristwatch ?
.

FYI Chaffee's NASA-issued Omega Speedmaster 105.003 chronograph shows up in July 1966 photos onwards...
