50 years ago... Apollo 10 ... For the " Snoopy " fans : Gene Cernan gave a hug to Jayme Flowers, Gordon Coopers' secretary, holding a Snoopy doll as the crew walk along the hallway to the transfer van for the trip to Launch Complex 39B

    By The Way:
Fun fact: the Apollo 10 LM - Lunar Module nicknamed " Snoopy " was just found by a team of British Astronomers !
Instead of being deliberately crashed onto the Lunar surface, " Snoopy " was sent into a heliocentric orbit as part of a burn-to-exhaustion test and NASA stopped tracking it shortly thereafter in 1969. Untill a team of student astronomers had to search for it in the summer of 2011...
Nick Howes, a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society announced the team was 99% sure to have located " Snoopy " ;)
Edit: more on the Australian side of the Apollo 10 story:

Many thanks for this info.... I love this quote from the links which shows how every second counts (and needed to be counted :0)

''You know, you’re a long way from home at 50,000 feet above the lunar surface and all of a sudden you’re spinning around in three different directions 8 seconds can be a long time.”

Most forum-members have seen the Apollo-Omega photo folder... but there's also an Apollo-Rolex photo folder... to be shared soon...
IMHO really like the link between both, especially with the Omega folder opened on a page with Apollo 14 photos showing 3 Rolex in each photo!

May 1973... Skylab 2 mission was launched and Doctor Joseph Kerwin always wore a little dosismeter on the velcro next to his NASA-issued Omega Speedmaster chronograph... Nice to know the box was adorned with a drawing of Snoopy wearing his pilot cap

50 years ago... May 18, 1969 figurines of Charles Schulz's syndicated comic strip "Snoopy" and "Charlie Brown" decorated the top of a console in the Mission Operations Control Room in the Mission Control Center, Building 30, on the first day of the Apollo 10 lunar orbit mission.
Apollo 10 CSM was nicknamed "Charlie Brown" while A10 Lunar Module was nicknamed "Snoopy" ... the Apollo 10 also carried some drawings of both characters aboard their spacecraft....

50 years ago... 18th May Apollo 10 and on 20th May 1969 the Apollo 11 Saturn V launch vehicle stack was rolled out to the launchpad LC39A
At the same time Moonwalkers Armstrong and Aldrin started lunar EVA training, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins who would orbit the Moon alone while his colleagues were on the lunar surface, started solitary training for his underappreciated job on Apollo 11
Here's a duo of NASA training photos showing Collins wearing the NASA-issued Speedmaster on a steel mesh JB Champion bracelet

50 years ago... Apollo 10 prime crew was pre-flight ready as the astronauts discussed & reviewed lunar charts with geologist Harrison Schmitt, who was later backup for the Apollo 14 mission and finally flew on the Apollo 17 mission in December 1972...
Note Eugene Cernan was wearing his NASA-issued Speedmaster 105.003 chronograph on a steel mesh JB Champion bracelet

50 years ago: June 1969 while the Apollo 11 Saturn V vehicle was standing on the launchpad, Collins trained alone for his CSM in lunar orbit duties.
Meanwhile Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin were training lunar EVA deployments of comm antennas and ALSEP scientific equipment...
Note that Aldrin wore a NASA-issued Omega Speedmaster chronograph on a long white velcro strap over his right hand glove

Looks like it will be a great documentary. Is there a UK release date?... hard to search for info without being swamped by First Man hits... the power of the corporate algorithms....

There is a pretty good little Book out now called Picturing Apollo 11.
Lots of great photos from all aspects of the mission. Google it.

June 1970... flight test engineer John Slight riding an electric Lunar Cycle aboard a NASA KC-135 " Vomit Comet " aircraft during tests for the Apollo J-missions... What an idea to carry a two-wheeled Honda Dax lookalike vehicle to the lunar surface.
Apollo 14 were the first to carry/pull a two-wheeled wheelbarrow cart aka the Modular Equipment Transporter... but 15 to 17 carried a real lunar rover
