Here is a modern twist for the day. Expedition 49 cosmonauts Sergei Ryzhikov and Andrey Borisenko cross checking and setting the mechanical Speedmaster on the black elastic strap.
Keeping with the theme of astronauts socializing at home, here's a shot of Aldrin & Armstrong taken in March 1969 Image credit: Life Magazine + Dan Beaumont Space Museum at flickr.com
I'm going to post a couple of more images from Dan Beaumont's online space museum, hosted on Flickr. https://www.flickr.com/photos/mrdanbeaumont/ Mr. Beaumont is a (part-time?) space journalist from Montreal, Canada. He curates an excellent collection of images spanning the entire history of manned space flight. Here's a shot of Dan Beaumont, age 17, at Cape Canaveral for the launch of Skylab. He was the youngest person with press credentials that day.

And the text bubble over Armstrong's head should read "Dude, listen to me again. I'm getting out first."
Astronauts Young & Crippen prior to maiden flight of the Space Shuttle. It's remarkable that Young is still sporting the JB Champion bracelet in 1981. Image credit: Le Figaro magazine + Dan Beaumont Space Museum at flickr.com
Not really. Two reasons... 1) The JB Champion is timeless. 2) He's John Friggin' Young. He can wear what he wants. Who is going to tell him you can't wear a Speedmaster on a bund style riveted leather strap with a little calendar wrapped around it? CREDIT - NASA - Apollo 16 crew photograph
Apollo 1 crew Roger Chafee Donn Eisele - Apollo 7 Looks like the bezel is back. Judging by the mood Jim's probably just told Marilyn what the DON cost him. Not sure what's inside Pete Conrad's wrist. With the Lovell family, Neil and Buzz as Apollo 13 events unfold.
Noted in dozens of photos how Jim Lovell preferred to wear his watch on the right hand wrist . Apollo 8 Apollo 13
This is a real rabbit hole. Sure I'll have some repeats today. I haven't even started on some of the suggested links yet. For some reason @Mad Dog kept showing up in my first searches for Michael Collins today. Heaven knows what future generations will think? I think he'd fit perfectly in this shot though Just a hint of watch from Neil's jacket cuff. FOIS Gemini IV - THE "Ed White" Couple from Gemini VII Gemini 11 and back up Apollo 1 - Hard to find pictures of Gus with a Speedmaster (I think) Apollo 7 - Wally Schirra again Apollo 10 - motorcade? What's inside Gene's wrist? Looks very black. Apollo 12 - Just thought this was an interesting picture over all. and good to see the black velcro high on the sleeve The Apollo 13 'four' Apollo 14 - Stuart Roosa When your business card says "Fighter Pilot, Test Pilot, Moon orbiting Astronaut" Finally some more pictures of Geology training. I've always liked the 'famous one' of Neil/JB Champion/hammer. Not sure if this was the same training. Some captioned as Sierra Blanca Another cool photo. Worth cropping And once more for luck
A flashback to 1973 and the Skylab era. "...water egress training..." That explains the inflated life raft in the back of the room. S73-27770 (1 May 1973) --- Astronaut Jack R. Lousma, Skylab 3 pilot, sits at a table with fellow crewmen and the flight surgeon prior to water egress training at the Johnson Space Center, Houston. Photo credit: NASA
Here's how to make a pile of money: bet someone that you can find a photo with the leader of the Soviet Union, the President of the United States, and an Omega Speedmaster S73-30889 (June 1973) --- Leonid I. Breznev, General Secretary of the Communist Party, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and President Richard M. Nixon, during ceremonies at the Western White House in San Clemente, California, examine plaques presented by Skylab astronauts Charles Conrad Jr., center; Joseph P. Kerwin, second from right; and Paul J. Weitz, left. Photo credit: NASA
Sometimes 1969 was better in Black and White. Search for this photo in colour, if you dare. This one is from the Oslo leg of the world tour. Post grouse hunt. Would that be correct? Should be saved for future "Can I wear a Speedy with a Tuxedo?" threads. Bonn? Can't see the watches in this one but it was too good to pass by. Couldn't find a single other picture from Mexico. They must be out there. London. Based on the Mk I Ford Escort, and Mr Plod Papal visit photos are also few and far between. So apologies for the watermarks. Where??? What 'tache best suits my Speedy? Out of synch but in the theme of world leaders. Buzz just stepped in Corgi poop. He is not amused.
I'm sure I see pushers on the Bonn picture. Would he have travelled with both? I'd expect the wives probably demanded most of the baggage allowance.
With what little we can see, I'm inclined toward the Speedmaster. But Buzz's fondness for his Rolex is well documented -- he wore it a lot during pre-Moon flight training.
