··Either he's dead or my watch has stoppedHi all. Up for sale or trade is this very special, unique and recently serviced small "T" 1550SG Bundeswehr. Happy to consider trading up or down, just depends on what you've got on offer. I am not stuck on anything in particular, but would seriously consider vintage Doxa 300 searambler or Aqualung, etc., Seamaster 300 (164.024), Ploprof - would also be keen on a JLC Master Compressor Navy Seals Chronograph GMT Limited Edition, Panerai, Heuer Super Professional 1000m, Breitling, etc.... I am in Australia, but never had an issue sending overseas or with sellers sending to me. Lots of feedback here on ΩF and elsewhere and you should have some runs on the board, otherwise I will ask you to send first.
Feel free to private message me with what you have in mind and some pics.
In well above average condition for age. Keeping excellent time. Serviced in early 2022 be leading Australian watchmaker.
Small T dial Heuer BUNDESWEHR SG1550 (Issued to the German airforce (c.1965)
Valjoux 230 movement with flyback function.
The small T dial was the original of these watches. The dials were later officially modified with the addition of the circle-3H to make the hazard of tritium more readily apparent to people in occupations handling the watches, and at some point many of the watches were redialed altogether with service dials that used no tritium, so they had no small T and no circle-3H.
1. This watch was issued to the German Air Force. (Issue markings on case back)
2. This is a “T” only dial - small T above the 6
3. Heuer logo
4. Clear Font - no numbers are cut off by the subdials
5. Some moderate case back polish from wear over the decades as to be expected for age.
6. Stainless steel 43mm case (20mm lug width) with very minimal markings (please study photos for condition) and signs of wear.
7. Hands coated with a Zns pigmented compound for a completely safe replication of the tritium lume used in the original.
Maintains a charge.
The case of the Heuer 1550 SG Flyback is made from stainless steel with a satin finish. The case measures 43 mm in diameter and is 13 mm in thickness. The construction of the case is composed of two main pieces, with a 4-screw case back design. This design allows easy access to the movement for service/repair purposes. The case construction is made so that the movement loads in through the front, and the screwed-in case back attaches the bezel, which simultaneously secures the crystal. It's likely that this design facilitated the quick and easy exchange of movements, bezels and crystals for the military contracted watchmakers - important for watches taking on the rough daily life as a military pilot's accessory.
