After some digging in the army archives and a lot of emailing with the original owner, I picked up this set a few days ago : a Heuer Carrera 7753 and a Pontiac, both issued to the same air force pilot who flew a combined 9000hrs with these watches. Both are powered by the valjoux 7733. The Belgian air force issued 3 watches to my knowledge, first a Pontiac with a Spillmanlike case, then the Heuer in the early seventies (70-73) and after that this Pontiac. Some pictures : F.Aé stands for Force Aérienne which means air force in French and LuM stand for luchtmacht which is the same in Dutch. The long serial is the NSN (nato stock number) and the 70/112 is the year of issue and number of this watch. I already owned a 'civilian' version of the same Heuer, meaning it lacks the military engravings and was probably overstock.
Very interesting, thank you. It's the first time I see a Pontiac military chronograph, really a nice piece.
Thanks for the nice comments guys! Dibs are noted. I'm working on a few more leads on these watches so maybe in the near future, who knows
Recently added the second Pontiac that was issued to pilots of the Belgian Airforce to the collection : 38mm spilman case, valjoux 22. The markings 6B/234 have English origin, Belgium probably copied them after the war when their fighter squadrons were embedded in the RAF. F.Aé.-L.M. stands for Force Aérienne - Luchtmacht (respectively airforce in french and dutch). 51 is the year of issue and 96 the individual number of the watch.
