Hesalite ... Does it scratch as easy as people say they do?

It can break, but even in extreme conditions tends to stay mostly intact. For example, this Speedmaster had been run over by a car, and most of the crystal is still there:



Acrylic crystals are somewhat pliable, so "shatter" isn't really a word that I would use to describe how they break.

He wasn't wearing it at the time - spring bar failure in a parking garage and the watch went flying...then run over before he found it.

Hesalite = fancy sounding word for acrylic (a.k.a. plastic).

ah I see, here I am thinking it was something special Omega cooked up for their watches only, while Rolex would only use acrylic. Thanks!

Interesting - I didn't realize the crystal was quite that thick. What is that, about 1.25mm?
