There were three UGs in the Geneve Encheres sale this evening, although it was Lot 636 that caught my eye.

Sadly my approval to bid seemed to disappear at the last minute so I had to watch with my hands tied (I'm not apportioning any blame - it could easily have been self-inflicted).

    Lot 636 6000 CHF plus ~25% commission

The auction house were unable to open the case back, which may have affected bidding.

    Any thoughts on the dial?

I was following this with interest, though I have very little knowledge of these Hermes signed Compax watches. In my research, I found a couple examples that helped a bit but totally out of my depth to be honest. Some basic observations: The black/gilt example has "Fab Suisse" at the bottom and the rounded 3s, both found on the white dial above. Also, the black dial example from Bring A Loupe shows identical placement of Hermes and Compax on the dial.

Was following this as well. Bids were jumping up and down in the last days. Bid approval was not easy. Very interesting one especially those blocks at 12

The Christie’s one, the logo looks suspicious.

I do not understand much about this... are you talking about the size of the “hermes” being bigger than the “universal geneve”? ... weird

The gilt and black example above is extremely similar to the one sold most recently in terms of how the sub-dials and all of the various scales are printed along with the Hermes text.

I had more or less convinced myself that the dial was probably genuine.

I did too, but then I realized how little I actually knew about these and decided to simply watch the auction unfold. If genuine, do you know what is the going rate for the white dialed example? It is also slightly smaller at 34mm compared to the 35mm (black/gilt) and 36mm (black/silver) examples above.

I'm not sure there are enough examples for anyone to be an expert or for there to be a market rate.

I agree with all the points you make though and the dial was showing its age too.

We never got to see the movement or inside the case back but assuming that didn't reveal any problems then my feeling is that the buyer did quite well.
