Possible that the rotor was replaced due to a worn bushing?

I have same thinking with you as it doesnt match with other parts. More shiny

Yes, I agree.

A lot of our Constellation gurus are either waking up to go to work, out partying or sleeping at the moment.
Let's wait for some expert advice.

I'll ignore the major condition issues for now, since that's not what you asked for, but regarding the movement:

Early 2852s came with cal. 501s, you're right though that they had a rotor that stated the adjusted positions. The switch to cal. 505s occured roughly at serial 15.03mil, as far as I'm aware, so if the serial of this particular 2852 is significantly later than that it might be a full-on replacement movement instead of just a changed rotor.

By the way, the difference between a regular and a chronometer 501 in terms of parts is literally just the rotor.

But your forgetting the 'magic fairy dust' that Omega sprinkle on the chronometer movements 😀

An excerpt from Desmond's essay on 501s - which might explain the solution here

Appears to be a redial. Markers and hardware don’t line up correctly. At very least a better photo of the face is needed.

Yep 2, 4 and 10 markers are way out of whack to minute markers. And would love to see the Constellation script up close 😗

One of the points I meant by "major condition issues". Condition of the case - or what's left of it - is another. And then there's little things like the second hand, positioning of the new lume plots and their color, ...

Crown's not too bad though

As noted, the dial appears to be no good, but better photos would be welcome obviously. The case, especially the back, has been heavily polished.

On most examples, the vertical cross hair cuts the word constellation just before the first "L", not on right on it. The writing looks a bit dodgy IMO

I thought we would'nt mention this!

Seriously, what's the right etiquette? When somebody dont ask about originality, is it the right thing to point out it's a redial?

Maybe this is something for a separate thread...

The RE text suggests an earlier rather than later 2852 (pre 1958 from memory), but the 20J movement (yes I know it could have been replaced) suggests later. It is a Franken to a greater or lesser degree. Or an out and out redial

I thought we would'nt mention this!

Yes because it is so important. It is a bit like writing a school report for A Hitler, commending his public speaking but not mentioning that he murders the other children.

This is not an OF sales post. It is a post by a member asking opinions on a watch. One can not give an opinion without discussing the various attributes and or deficits of a watch. Perfectly permissible,
as Bandit Heeler would say.

The first Constellation I ever purchased was quite similar, a redial with a cal. 501 movement and the same rotor. Serial 14,88X,XXX and Ref. 2852-5. It was gold-capped, not solid gold. I paid almost nothing for it. In searching similar watches, I found many with the 19 jewel chronometer rotor in the same serial number range.

But, it is what it is. A frankenwatch with a redial. The question on OP's watch is whether the seller is pumping up the price way above the gold content due to the (incorrect) black dial, as we so often see with these.
