    Oooooo.......a "military" 6B/159 with a sub-second dial.

Can't wait to see the insides.

Hello @Rachael.bull and welcome to the forum!

As mentioned above, you will need to take your watch to a local watchmaker, and ask them to take back of the case off for you. Then take plenty of well-lit, focused pictures of the watch movement and the lettering on the inside of the caseback, and post the pictures here. We can tell you more about your watch after that.

From the two pictures above, it appears you have a watch with a "sterile" dial (meaning that no manufacturers mark or logo is visible) and a chrome-plated case. The back of the watch is probably stainless steel.

There is a faint engraving on the back that appears to read "6B/159" and an arrowhead, known as a "broad arrow." Those are references to the British Air Ministry (AM) Specification 6B/159, which was a military specification for watches that were to be supplied to the Royal Air Force, circa 1940. The broad arrow means the watch was possibly issued by the military to a service member.

Watch collectors (such as those on this forum) love military watches, so many military watches have fake engravings to increase their collectability. We need to see more pictures of the insides of your watch to help you further.

Not really. It's just a generic strap which wasn't unusual in the day (and still isn't).

Original straps often wore out, especially if the watch was worn often and well used and yours looks like it has lived a life.

The pictures of the insides (movement and caseback) will tell a lot about the watch.

    :(

It looks like an early attempt to make a "military" watch (the 6B engraving etc).

    Not particularly valuable or collectable.

I'll check out the movement tomorrow as right now I'm enjoying a beer.
