Help with vintage Seamaster ref. number.

Hi OF

I want to start hunting for a future anniversary gift for my wife and would appreciate some help with specific reference numbers, as it would aide with my search.

My wife has actually taken a liking to my watch hobby (or she is just very kind) and seems interested in wearing a "nice watch". The problem is that she is drawn towards the cleaner "Daniel Wellington" style when we walk past stores. There was another thread where someone had mentioned that his wife wears his 36mm seamaster and that sparked the idea of getting her a vintage seamaster. The problem is that there seem to be so many combinations of metals, dials, etc and figured I could ask here for some assistance.

What I have in mind is a gold or gold plated seamaster, with a white dial, center seconds and alpha-style hands (forget the real name for these style of hands). It would be nice if it were manual wind as she would like a thinner case, but I'm so sure how much difference this made on these 50s and 60s seamasters?

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated - pictures too!

Thanks,
Alex

You may search for seamaster 30 or seamaster 600 (not the diver) models, for example.

I'm not related with him at all, but @trash_gordon has two seamasters for sale, with good reference pictures:

You are not supposed to buy any on the spot 😁; I think those two refs are common, but quite nice and have quality movements. Provided they are serviced and cared for, accurate and tough.

Remember to add the service cost to almost any purchase.

Edit: some 550/560 autos are quite thin, so height should not be a deal breaker.

The obvious choice would be a Seamaster DeVille (ref. 14905 or 166.020 or one of the other iterations), but for a simpler look at bombproof innards, see if you can find a Seamaster 30, which should be cheaper than a DeVille and easier on the maintenance etc.

Thank you! Will take a look now.

Just found a seamaster 600 on a local forum in Sweden. I like the look of the 600 below a lot, especially the lug style. Interesting rabbit hole to fall into.

@S.H. Thank you for the information!

The second seamaster he has listed is beautiful. I love those hands, and the case shape.

Me too, love the case. May have bought it, were it in steel.

😁 I understand. I almost want to buy it for myself, as my wife would like the Deville or 600 style more.

Note that the 600 is fairly small and wears small too. If you are looking for a 36mm piece, this will not be it.
