Hi guys im extremely new to watches and am looking for any information and help possible on this omega I recently received from my grandad who passed. I cannot find any similar omega chronometers that have this dial. Most I found have the “automatic” on the dial? I believe the bracelet is aftermarket topps from the 70’s, but really have no idea and would love some help! Thanks in advance, its my first time here!

Everything to know is on the inside. Find a watchmaker to crack the case and let you take pictures. Don't be too concerned about the dial, there are numerous variations. Also, chronometers need not be automatic. It's the timekeeping, not the winding system, that determines whether it's a chronometer.

That’s an attractive watch and a great legacy. You should have it serviced if you plan to keep it, including polishing the crystal.

Please … throw away the bracelet and get a decent leather strap with the right sized spring bars. They shouldn’t stick outside of the case.

Let us know the serial number, movement calibre and model reference when you have it opened.

Have a look, if the underside of the lug at 5 o'clock has a stamp in the metal. If so, take a better picture there. Erich(macOmega) will tell you more. Nice example and handwinding calibre 30T2RG, if a Chronometer.....

I can tell you that your grandfather was a man of class.

A solid gold chronometer-rated Omega from the forties? Wow. Who was he? What was his line of work?

It looks like there's a stamp on one of the lugs and one on the side of the watch:

Hey thanks so much for the help so far guys! I myself didn’t notice the tiny mark, it looks to my eye just a dent but maybe not. I have attached 3 images, my camera will only focus so far, looks to me like a womans head and a letter g underneath?

From what I know he served in the war when he was young and He was a decorator before and after! Fun fact he painted the kings cross clock a different colour during the war so the planes couldnt see it and then after he painted it back! Everytime I go to kings cross its cool to look at!

Well, at some point he bought just about the best watch available to the public for himself. While it may not be the most expensive vintage watch, rest assured that it is pretty special 😀

Maybe he fought in Berlin the last days and took it from the cold body of a Nazi high rank officer?
If you only have the serial number you could find your watch here:

The Russians nicked most of the watches!

Someone smart enough to paint the kings cross clock could have sneaked by all those russians 😉
