Crown is worn down with age, not an uncommon thing to see on those crowns as they have a thin shell of gold that is very soft and end up being worn daily for half a century

Thread 'Omega 2635-5' ·Been a long time lurker on the forum. Considering buying this watch. Seller wants 400$ firm.
It's an Omega 2635-5 with a gold capped case. Anything that I should look out for?

Hey evryone, looking into buying this watch. Listed as ref 2635/5 and as an 18ct solid gold bezel. I don't see any markings in the caseback suggesting that gold status though, very difficult to find this particular model through a google search too. Anyone familiar? Thanks
This is a gold-capped watch, not solid gold. The bezel isn't 18k gold, it's all gold-plated. This one seems rough around the edges imo I would look for a better example unless it's priced well.

I think that the crown may be both a replacement and also worn down. Otherwise, the watch looks legit to me. It's possible that the bezel is solid gold, but I don't think you should count on it. And TBH, unless your plan is to scrap the case, it really doesn't matter much. I doubt that the watch was serviced. Overall, it probably comes down to your personal taste and how much you like it. It's not the worst example I've seen, but for various reasons, I'm not finding it terribly appealing.
Just on the price, I did negotiate the seller down a bit, got him to 590 dollars but that was as low as he was willing to go. He did say he just had it serviced as well.

Based on what I can see there: That is probably too high of a price by almost 2x. I also don't believe it was recently serviced (or at least, serviced WELL) based on those pictures. I do a bad job of watch servicing, and mine all leave looking better/cleaner than that 😁
Dial + hands aren't particularly attractive condition either. IMO, unless you're absolutely in love with this, I'd say pass.

Just to help you out
Gold cap, gold filled and gold plate. This is Gold Capped which is a thicker layer of gold (vs. Gold filled) and bonded to steel with heat and pressure.
Gold filled is also applied, but on brass under heat and pressure
Gold plate is a thin layer of gold applied electronically. Listed in microns although some are thick layer. Some Chinese companies do 1 micron (doesn’t last very
