Help with re plating a vintage Omega Geneve

Hi I was hoping for some advice about re plating a vintage watch. It’s an omega geneve; I’m based in New Zealand but happy to send the watch to the best place to have this carried out.
Any help or thoughts greatly appreciated.

Omega Geneve
Calibre 565
Stainless Steel Base coated with 20 microns

“Carrure Lunette Plaque or G 20 microns” is on the inside of the case back.

Thank you

Are you willing to spend more than it’s worth? Serious question as everything is possible but not everything is economically wise. If you’ve already stripped the case then there are indeed plating services available, though they are more used to dealing with trade customers. I know of one in the uk who did a bezel for me and I’ve heard good things about Replatit (sp) who I think are either in NW US or Canada, I forget which.

Honestly I’m happy to spend whatever… it’s of sentimental value. Appreciate it doesn’t make a lot of economic sense but that’s fine. I had a look at replateit but they don’t accept courier packages (dhl, FedEx) from what I could read which makes it difficult when sending from NZ.

Would you care to share who did the work in the UK?

Pretty sure, our Canadian members can help here. Courier to them. They forward to the workshop. Same in reverse. Just make sure, your parcel contents description does not attract extra cusoms charges ....

Another recommendation of Replateit. I spent about $300 and they replated my quite rough Hamilton. It turned out AMAZING.

I'll dig up a picture if I can find one.

Their new address is a used car lot. That's a little disconcerting. So they're legit?

They have certainly been around for a long time, and have been recommended time and again. Haven't used them myself yet, but they seem to be quite professional (lots of options to choose from), and I have seen the work they have done on several occasions in forums. Looked quite good.

I'll try to dig out the details, it was a couple of years ago, but it was a backstreet trade place in the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter who aren't easy to find and may not even have a web presence, hence my comment about trade customers.

It looks like they are renting a portion of the dealership. I recently sent them a set of hands for re-plating and heard back from Peter with a quote.

Their instagram photos show amazing work.

Never used them but everything I’ve read here and elsewhere has praised the quality of their work. If I
remember correctly, they do ask that you remove the dial and movement from the watch before sending the case to them for replating.

Thanks @padders but I wouldn't go to any trouble to find the address. It was more of a curious query.

Look on eBay you might find a better case that doesn’t need plating

Hi we have several companies at hand in Germany who do gold plating. If the case is stripped you pay 90-110 Euro max. you can always contact us for a contact Although its done under from your perspective.

I haven’t used their services but have seen a Rolex they worked on and it was exceptionally well presented

ReplateIt did a terrific job at modest costs for me. Highly recommended, but as Redondo says, there are european shops as well.
