Have you tried using the price guide on the Speedmaster101 website? That should be the first port of call

Play the yes / No game

Would you buy it for $5,000 ? Yes

Would you buy it for $15,000 No

Now you have your ballpark idea. You can go further - go up from 5000 until you hit No, or down from 15000 until you hit Yes.

The rest is the fun bit, which you could be doing yourself:

Start with the dial...

I, for one, would not be making any aesthetic decisions based on these photos, so I can't make a grade. However, we can say it looks correct. I think the lume is greenish/algae, which does not add value. I would want to see the dial surface. my guess is its Fair to Good but possibly Poor if marked.

Check the bezel - it's a DO90 so that's good. Is it genuine? Yes...BUT. It has thick fonts, and looks like it was at the end of production run, so blurred/thickened. It is not elegant or clear, and I don't like it. For specifics, look at the 3's and the 1's which lack crisp serifs and look at the dot over the 5, which is touching. It could be just from a lot that looked like this - however, the source is irrelevant when talking value, because I do not add much value for this kind of bezel even if it's genuine. Why? Because it's not nice to look at. (Fair)

Next the case. Back is so polished its lost its bevel. (Fair/Good)

It has the original pushers, (yay!) but that's the best thing I can say about it.

For me, a watch has to have at least one big attraction for me to buy it.

In some cases, the only big attraction a watch can have, is a cheap price.

How much is being asked?

Most watches have a story to tell. This one says "I lived a good life, someone wore me alot and even around water, which is where I picked up my green lume and the paint started chipping off my hands. Unfortunately, my owner no longer wanted me and sold me to someone who thinks Speedmasters are big money and polished me up to sell. I feel tired and too old to be treated like this."

It's not a watch that makes me feel happy looking at it. If it is cheap enough I might buy it and wear it just to give it some dignity in its final years.

Very generous and useful insight!

There are way better 105.012 examples so this would in my view have to be available at a very good price.

Although I agree it's clearly not the most attractive watch i dont think the photos's are doing it any favours. With a slight readjustment of the levels to what I'd consider more normal lighting the dial actually doesn't look too bad.

Hi @cantonneuchatel,
(Hi seems to me the minimum on an English forum for post #1).
The franken bracelet makes me think there is something else which might be wrong.
For the watch, better pictures quality is needed.

Well, to me it looks like a 1175 with 47 end links but a wrong clasp. If one has the right clasp, it might add some value. Still not a correct bracelet for a 105.012,

kind regards, Max

Many thanks to all enthusiasts who have provided answers to my question. I am a newbie and just started collecting this year so I am grateful for the insights.

The watch in question is on an auction site right now. The auction placed an estimate value of between USD 2k-3k
