Ha! I can answer the second question (although sheepishly, considering the audience). Yes, it has been in my husband's dresser drawer for about 35 years. And before that, my father-in-law's.

I'll check my dresser drawer right now...

I'm not sure why you are asking about the value, but if you are at all considering selling it (or selling it in the future) ... go slow. It's likely a watch for a major auction house. Some people may be making you offers by PM, and some of those offers might be fair, but there's no reason to make a rushed decision.

Don't do anything with it. Nothing. Don't clean it, don't open it, don't polish it ... nothing. Don't worry about insurance, just leave it in the safety deposit box at the bank.

If your husband is considering wearing it, that's a different story, and we need to talk more.

We are so glad to have happened upon this forum, and appreciate all of the input so far. We love and appreciate craftsmanship, beautifully made things, and history, but we are not collectors. This watch is something passed along to us that we felt might have value, but we've never been sure, and have not known where to look for honest information. About five years ago, we took it to a local jeweler for an appraisal. He wasn't "comfortable" giving us an appraisal, but offered us "$500 on the spot," with the catch that we had to decide right then. Needless to say, we became suspicious with his eagerness (and weird offer), pumped the brakes, and put the watch back in the drawer for safe keeping.

Thank you for this advice. We will heed it.

Well, if you followed that other link, you saw that other examples have sold well into the 5-figure USD range. We can't do any sort of reasonable valuation based on a few photos, but at least you know the general neighborhood you are in.

That was also 3 years ago.

Yes, but I suspect it's still in the 5-figure range. 😉

Obviously I don't want to give any sort of valuation, but I thought it would be useful to point out that we're talking college tuition money, not iPhone money.

Good instincts. Beautiful watch.

I love these threads. Please keep us all informed. It sounds like one way or another the watch is going to find a good home with someone who loves it, whether or not it even goes anywhere.

One sold in 2016 for 68,750.00 CHF but that seems to be where the market peaked. https://www.phillips.com/detail/omega/CH080016/87

Peaked in the sense that prices dropped thenceforth? Do these models show up on the market that often?

Or maybe that was just a particularly nice one, with a desirable dial.

I don’t like to render harsh judgement but it appears that gentleman may have been a scumbag. Fortunately you weren’t desperate and picked up on the cues. You are very fortunate to have this watch in your family. Whatever you choose to do I’m sure it will work out well

These 33.3 "waterproof" screwback cases with round pushers are much rarer than snapback cases (with olive or rectangle pushers) and will carry a correspondingly higher premium

Very nice example with a nice dial. Could you post some close ups? It seems to be in a great condition.
And get the extract for it 😀

Perhaps you already got quite a few offers 😀 but don’t be hasty.

I’ve recently posted link to 2077 auction here - maybe not a bargain, but definitely cheaper than others. Don’t sell it that low.
