I have been wanting to purchase my first Omega. Wanting to purchase the moon watch 311.30.42.30.01.005

I visited an Omega boutique and they mentioned a “new” movement for this watch is about to be released...? Should I wait for the new release?

What is a good price for this watch new and and recommended places to buy.

    Thanks.

First in regards to a new movement, as far as anyone knows that’s just conjecture. If it was official we would have confirmation here. If the old movement has been good enough since 1969 and was good enough for NASA in the Space Shuttle era, ( and went around the moon) and is still good enough for EVA’s with Russian cosmonauts, I don’t think you need a new version.

2nd as for price it’s been covered quite extensively on this forum.

Just bought mine a couple of weeks ago and agree with the above statement.

Not much deviation in UK price which is currently £4000.

New buyer here and agree with both of above. Price for new Speedy Pros in Canada has remained remarkably stable over the past few years with a few increases (300.00 both times) that can be used as a start in any negotiation. GM and used prices for the .005 have similarly ranged between USD 3300.00 - 4100.00 without much change. I'd expect any new movement to add to the cost of the watch and/or for the package offered to be more modest, and for prices to then go up on new/mint .005s. But I really have no idea. If it's the watch you want, then I'd go ahead and not worry about a new movement, since the 1861-based Speedy will always be desirable.

Thanks for the input. Im in the US. Planning on buying a grey market new from "world of Watches". It is about $1K USD less expensive than buying it from my local Omega Boutique.

Is grey market safe? Any reason I should NOT buy grey market? I'm assuming it is an authentic working Omega.

Many trusted sellers on this forum that would be better (warranty cards) and cheaper than grey market. DM me if wanted info on my specific experience .

My OB expects there to be a "new" Moonwatch with the 3861 movement (co-axial escapement), but they don't know if it will come out in 2020. My guess is it will, since it just makes sense to keep producing them after introducing the movement with the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary watches. They will no doubt cost more than the current 1861/1863 Speedmasters, so it's really up to you if you want to get a less expensive version now. The good thing is they all now come with 5 year warranties.

Some jump in price in a year. I paid £3200 from Omega Boutique in Glasgow for my moon watch last October.

Do you have a link or even better some pictures that show the watch you are intending to buy?

I would go for the 1861, I haven’t seen any clues why they would use the 3861 for the .005 it think that moment will stay for a bit for the LEs.
Also the 1861 has been proved to be a solid movement.
Another question is do you want to wait?? Buy this one now and then when the next thing happens If you like that one better just change..

or I could go are market at "World of Watches" in the US. No warranty card.

Big difference in price. Not sure if it is justified for the the higher price one. I'm in the US so not sure if I will have to pay any tax import duties, etc...

Since you spoke of "grey market" I wasn't sure what you meant in this case. I've never bought anything on this forum, but I'm convinced that there's no better place to buy a watch.

Both of the watches you've just shown look fine and I personally would go for one of them and save the extra money for christmas or charity purposes, after having checked the terms of sale (taxes etc.).

What kind of duties and or taxes can I expect if purchased from the UK and shipped to the US? What have others in the US experienced?

I'd buy from him, but he won't budge on his price. He is $485 more and I cant justify his price difference.

I just bought a new .006 yesterday. I have been trying to decide whether I should wait, but really, I could do that anytime I buy a watch and then I would never get a watch...

Sounds simple to me, if the only thing that matters to you is price, buy the cheapest one you can find.

Cheap can be expensive in the end...
