Help with choosing a Speedmaster

Hi,

I posted previously and based on the advice/guidance I returned the watch that I referenced in that post. Thanks again everyone. I am now looking for a daily speedmaster - my goal was a 145.022 with a step dial but I believe a quality example will be north of $5k (yes there are probably examples below that but in general they seem to go for $5k to $8k). I am now considering 3590.50 and 3592.50 or I guess an early tritium 3572.50 and will do a bunch of research over the weekend. Here are a few watches that I have come across so far... any thoughts, guidance or advice is much appreciated.

3590.50

3592.50

145-022 (ebay, so price tbd)

What do you want? What do you like about each?

This matters.

$3,500 for that 3590.50 is a solid price. It’s an amazing watch for the money and is a great entry into “vintage” speedmasters. A classic speedie and the yellow lume really makes them special compared to a modern Speedmaster I think.

If you love wearing the watch and how it looks, you can save and get into something more true vintage - a -69 or even a 145.012 or 105.012.

I want... and early 70s 145.022 step dial. But my concern is that to find one in good condition that could be an only watch would be too costly. I'd like to stay around $4k.

3590.50 seems like a fair price and honest watch. I do have some concerns re the hands as there does seem like discoloration is present and I'm not sure how much that would bug me.

3592.50 also seems like a good seller and good condition and comes as a set. And the casebacklearned is cool.

I've even been looking at 3572.50s non tritium.

I'm such a novice that I'm not sure what to look for. I've read the guides and tried to digest as much as I can but it's something that seems like time invested and mistakes made lessons learned are just a reality. I'm hoping to learn and get some guidance.

Thank you. I'm leaning this way. I tend to dive in head first rather than dip my toe and take some time to learn and figure out important details. Friends of mine just moved out of state and my advice was to rent a place for a time to learn about the new area and what is best for their specific needs etc. I need to follow that advice.

With 5k in mind, you can probably looking to get a good condition 145.022 69! I owned both 69 and 74 before. Have to say 69 feels better than 74. It just right. But at 3.5k, an early 3950.50 is the way to go. Buy the best condition you can find!

If you’re not dead set on tritium, a 357x.50 is excellent value. You should be able to find a nice example for under $4k. There are also a few 3570.50s with tritium dials, made during the changeover to Luminova. I have one and it is a great watch.

How set are you on step dials? You’re looking at a very good condition 145.022-76 through early 80’s at that price.

Find one with great lume and a good case and you will be set.

I'm open. Most important to me at this point is condition and seller.
