Help with a Seamaster De Ville

Hey everyone,

First post here, looking forward to getting involved in the community!

Came across this automatic Omega Seamaster De Ville in my great-grandfather’s collection.

It’s plain gold on the back with an inscription from the company that gave it to him in ’77. No other markings I can see. (Research has shown that you have to remove the entire movement to find references numbers.)

Looked for the 14k/18k gold marking between the lugs, but all I can make out is the ‘gold’ word. (Picture #2) Unfortunately, the terrible bracelet it’s on has scratched the case so much that I can’t make out the rest.

It’s obviously a little beat up, the crystal especially, but wound up fine and runs. (Though quite a bit fast…)

I’ve been looking at De Villes today and can’t seem to find any with the split-second indicators seen on this one.

Has this been redialed? Is it worth getting cleaned up or just leave it as it is. (I kind of like the beat up look…)

Thanks!

Those sub-second dials are legit and your watch looks great to me. Just needs some cleaning up.

Yes that dial looks to be in pretty good condition. Since it is your grandfathers you are obligated to get it serviced and polish that crystal put a new strap on and have an official family heirloom

Your watch looks like a legit ref. 166.020, but the crown is a non matching replacement.

Here is a SS version with the same dial design for comparison:
