Hi folks a gentleman of my aquintance has inherited this old Rolex. As this isn't my area of expertise I thought i would reach out to ask if any of you had any information. Its missing hands and a crown so would be a bit of a pain to restore in my opinion.
Based on the photos I think it'd be worth restoring.
At the time Rolex was just another nice Swiss watch, however, the current reputation of the brand has enhanced the value of these models, even though they probably house basic Aegler movements.
Not sure, but maybe @Canuck has experience with one of these.
I see no evidence of the fourth wheel pinion peeking through the hole in the seconds bit at the 6:00 position on the dial. This pivot would carry the seconds hand. The watch is likely over 90 years ago, and any required parts would be hard/almost impossible to find. If the pivot I refer to is in fact not there, and if this watch has the movement I have in mind, then as I recall, the pinion I refer to is an “idler” pinion, and that might simplify replacement. Need more information involving a picture of the movement. As to restoration, the availability of any required parts, and the cost of the process, only the owner can decide if they wish to spend the money. A lot of folks would consider it to be worth repair.
I did look at the movement but forgot to take a picture. It is round rather than rectangular.
This watch was produced when Rolex out-sourced a lot of their movements. That might help if parts replacement becomes a consideration. Need a picture of the movement if you require more information. You have had access to the moment, previously. Please do it again!
