hello and thanks for accepting my request, my father passed last year and I was left his watch and jewellery collection and there’s one omega constellation watch which has no box or any form of paper work. My main inquiry is the Authenticity of the watch and also any information about it would be much appreciated! I understand it’s not in the greatest condition but it works and seems to hold time Looking forward to hearing from you all
Gorgeous genuine survivor. I would take off the stretchy band as they are bad for the inner lugs, and have the movement serviced by a qualified shop and not do much else besides polishing the plastic crystal. She's a beauty!
Might also want to check the rotor for looseness. Looks like some wear on the flat side from rubber against the case back, Probably a new bushing DON
Thank you all very much for you help! In the condition it’s in what sort of rough value would you put on it? I’d like to get a memorial bench but haven’t the funds at the moment so this could be of great help! Thanks again Ryan
Condolences on the loss of your father. It's a nice looking watch. Original 'hidden' crown and the dial looks correct - I suspect it looks better on the wrist than in the photos and a polished crystal will work wonders. The movement need a service and unfortunately someone has badly damaged the case back trying to open it. Does the date change or is it stuck between 9 & 10? It's not the most desirable Constellation to most (although I happen to like this reference a lot) Given the style and condition the watch is not worth a fortune but should definitely fund a decent memorial bench (plus a bottle of bubbly or two to toast your father with) Don't do anything to the watch if you intend selling -you will almost certainly devalue it further
Thank you for the kind words the date does move freely and the watch itself seems to keep time, I shall be looking to sell I should imagine so the watch has been tucked away for safe keeping! If anyone is in the market for a project please be in touch Massive thanks again
Before someone else says it, you need 200 posts to sell on this forum. Please note, this isn’t a project watch, so don’t let anyone seriously low-ball you, it’s a vintage watch in genuine condition. it just needs the usual TLC. Also this is an international forum, the country you’re in makes a difference to prospective buyers. (Import tax and the like)
Thanks for telling me that as I didn’t know! I had someone offer me £100 for it earlier which I thought was abit of a low blow? I understand it’s not it the most prestige condition but like You said it’s a genuine condition! I’m from the United Kingdom if that helps at all
Was this a old or new member? I hate these kind of offers. It's disrespectfull and it says something about your (or the absence of) character.
It Was actually from a different page that’s why I’ve come on to here to save the mess around and to ask genuine people that know what they’re talking about! You guys have been amazing in helping
that £100 offer is called taking the piss. Your location pretty much rules out everywhere except Europe (whilst we are still in it) due to taxes but there is still a strong market to aim at. @Shabbaz might be better than me at valuing your watch. At UK auction, I could see this selling for hammer price of £400-600 (which would cost the buyer £500-£750) You would get 85% of the hammer price. On eBay you might get the hammer price or even more. (But there is also the risk of getting less at any auction) Contrary to what I said earlier, if you are putting it on eBay, buy a tube of polywatch and carefully polish the crystal (avoiding the case!)
Hi and welcome I would certainly listen to the advice above. I think it would do really well on an eBay auction with no reserve. As stated by others it’s a lovely genuine watch and would appeal to many potential buyers. Best of luck Chris.
[QUOTE="Peemacgee, post: 1577343, member: 12739"@Shabbaz might be better than me at valuing your watch[/QUOTE] Well. With those pictures you're not going to sell it. Buy a nice EUR 40 genuine alligator strap from our vietnamese friends (or head only), polish the plexi, clean the case a bit and make some decent pictures (outside with good light or in the car). It will clean up nicely. Be transparant about the service history. And then you will sell your watch I suppose. Some example pictures of a 168.010 (car and outside):
Ah. I found my old sales add. Maybe this helps a bit. https://omegaforums.net/threads/fs-omega-constellation-168-010.108895/ And my sales adds are much worse then most of the OF members. Some of the adds of my fellow members are like poetry. Take for instance adds of @Tony C. or @ConElPueblo . They have great adds with great pictures.
I would humbly submit that (ignoring the wonderful black dial on the first watch) the cases on both your watches are significantly sharper than the OPs. Hence my valuation differing from the asking price in your OF add. However, I wholeheartedly agree, better photos would make all the difference to the eventual sale price of the watch
Thank you all very much for you help it’s greatly appreciated! I shall be listing it on eBay I should imagine so I shall keep you posted as to when I list it! Thanks again Ryan
I had the same thought, but using the proceeds of selling the watch to fund a memorial bench is also a fitting tribute to his father. Either way, it's nice to see a son honor his Dad.
