New to this forum and relatively new to vintage speedmasters as well. Does this look re-lumed to you? anything about this you see that isn't time period correct? Assuming 321 movement is in good shape, does it command top dollar?

Welcome to the forum.

I doubt anyone could say for definite wether this is re-lumed or not from these photos. Are better pictures available? The bezel is pretty rough. The case looks reasonable, but again hard to properly see. Do you know the year and serial number?

Thanks Badwolf. I have one more pic. Unfortunately, I only have a few pics to start.

The lume looks like very clean and with a strong patina. The hands match the color.
The sweep hand seems to be repainted. And there is a problem on the dial.

I don't know if it has been relume - hard to say - but I'm suspicious.

The hands have all been redone and there's a lot going on with that dial, just a cursory look shows damage in the top two subdials (top left subdial has a scratch along the raised portion from the dial hand from the 20 to around the 50; and the top right has a scratch across the "20" area (unless that's in the hesalite, hard to tell, but looks like dial to me); lots of hash marks seem to have breaks in the white ink, yet the lume is perfect, so yeah, I'd lean strongly towards relume as it doesn't match the overall condition of the dial, or the rest of the watch (bezel is well worn, case is well worn/polished). I'm not saying its not attractive on the wrist, and if relume I'd say the restorer did a good job.

Bezel looks rough, but I'll not be surprised if it's just gunk / dirt. Better dial pics in different angles will tell if there's problems. It all comes down to the price...

Leaning also towards re-done dial, but nicely so.

My gut reaction was also that the hands have been redone. Couple this with the unusual lume colour and I’d be swaying towards full relume in lieu of info to the contrary.

Thank you all. Chrono 24 has these ranging from 15-17K on the higher end which is about which is around the asking here. I think I have to treat it as a full relume... in which case I should pay much lower. Thoughts?

This is really just guesswork based on those photos, but I would guess that the hands are repainted and relumed, and the dial has been relumed. The uniform perfect lume and the lack of a break at the dial step just make me suspicious. However, poor photos can fool anyone, and it's possible that it looks more honest in person.

Yes, much lower. Anyway, I wouldn’t even think of spending that kind of money based on a couple of poor photos, but given it’s likely a re lume it’s worth probably just over half what you’re thinking.

Amongst this reoccurring threads, would it be snobbish from me to remark that, if you cannot narrow your uncertainty regarding a Speedmaster 2998, 105.003, 145.022 and other prominent models down to specific points / questions, you are in my view not worthy to own a good one?

I would ask the seller for more, better photos if you are seriously interested. If they don’t produce, I would walk away.
