Hello, have came across this omega 2503-5. Seller has said it dates back to 1955. I am looking for a nice watch for my dads 70th bday next month.

Can anyone help verify the originality of this watch?

No papers and no box.

The serial dated to 1947. The case is over-polished; redialed, wrong crown. IMO you should let it pass

Dial was stripped and repainted, usually because of moisture damage.

One casing screw is even missing!

A redial cuts the value in half and collectors won't buy them.
I suggest to not get hung up on the birth year thing as it will greatly restrict your ability to find a good watch. Look for something from the fifties. Also black dials from the 50s are rare and almost always redials. The originals usually look their age and the nice ones sell for a lot more $$ and are snapped up by collectors.

If you are looking for a quick purchase and want something legit and desirable, you should probably look at the listings in the sales section on the forum, or follow recommended eBay sales, or suck it up and pay a 100% premium to buy from a reputable dealer. It will take you some time to learn how to identify a legit collectible example from one that has been tampered with, and many sellers are sneaky and dishonest.

If you just want something shiny and with Omega on the dial, the OP watch would be fine.
