I took a break from buying watches for a while but now interested in getting the SMP MoonWatch. I'd like to sell my vintage watch collection. I have only 3: 1954 Longines 23z 14k (purchased on this forum), Gruen Pan American, and Enicar Automatic with AR165 movement. I have never sold on eBay before. Should I try and sell here on the omegaforums? Or try something else like Chron24.ca (I'm in Canada). Any advice would be appreciated.
Cool collection+best of luck. You don't have enough posts to sell things here. Ebay's certainly your best bet--the watches look to be in great shape, and ebay will certainly get the most eyeballs. While ebay's a pain, it's slightly less of a pain than every other option (imo) unless it's a specific watch with a specific customer. IG also works well, though that clearly depends on the number of accounts you'll get seen by. Again, best of luck.
I'd probably try C24 before I'd go with either eBay or IG. Too many scammers and very unfriendly seller policies on the latter. C24 also has a lower commission rate than eBay. And because C24 tends to have a lot of inflated dealer prices, your watches will draw considerable attention compared to the dealer offerings if you price them reasonably.
None of these are Omega watches so no real advantage selling here on OF. Reddit watchexchange is a good option and you don't need 200 posts.
Those are three nice vintage pieces, if it was me I'd keep them and just save more money to add a Speedmaster to the fleet. Time is on your side.
Ummm……Not all of us are Omega only. Note the presence of subfora and the variety of brands for sale here.
This was an odd comment to make. Did you not just sell a Rolex here? Seems it was advantageous for you to list it here, no?
Well anyways back to the OP. I agree with @Evitzee that you might consider holding onto what you have and simply save up more. The current line up in your collection isn't going to get you anywhere close to Speedmaster money.
Really great feedback. I'll think about it some more. The thing is I don't wear those watches and would rather have something in my collection I actually wear. Even a few hundred dollars would get me closer to the Speedy. Thanks for the comments everybody.
I would recommend reddit if you would like to minimize fees. You can also try Facebook marketplace if you live in a large metropolitan area. Otherwise, Chrono24 and eBay will be your best bet. However, in addition to higher fees, eBay will hold your money for a while if you're not a high-volume seller!
And then assuming you receive the money in your own currency... If I want to be found worldwide I need to use .co.uk and then I get paid in GBP (and I live in euroland). And then not the mention paypal fees... One of the reasons I quit selling on ebay
My experience is different. Last few watches I sold on eBay I received well over 90% of the sale price. But I prefer to get 100% when possible. Better for everyone to sell person to person.
@Jdalt have you checked if you have access to post in private sales? The 200 post rule came in around 2013/4 and those who were members before then kept their rights to post without the 200 rule applying. @dsio will know if you need to check
