I’m hoping someone with a bit more experience can point me in the right direction with this one.
I’ve got this Omega Genève ref. 566.002, which belongs to my mum. It’s a lovely little automatic and is running well, but the acrylic crystal has developed some internal cracks that won’t polish out, so I’d like to replace it.
I’ve removed the case back without any issues, but this is where I’m getting stuck. The movement seems completely unwilling to come out of the case. I don’t want to start applying force without understanding exactly how this reference is constructed or whether I’m missing a retaining ring/clamp or another step.
I’ve also tried removing the crystal from the front with a crystal lift, but haven’t had any success there either. It feels very firmly retained and, again, I’d rather stop than damage the case or dial.
I couldn’t see a natural bezel opening to get it out as a front loader either - but maybe I’m wrong.
I've attached photos of the watch, inside case back and movement.
Does anyone know the correct procedure for removing the crystal on this reference?
In particular, does the movement need to come out first, and if so, what is actually retaining it? Or is the crystal supposed to be removed from the front using a different method/tool?
I’m comfortable doing the basic work, but this is my mum’s watch so I’m deliberately being cautious rather than learning the hard way!
Any advice would be hugely appreciated.
