Hi guys/ladies, I've purchased a lovely Tissot pocket watch from @Tony C. not too long ago. Beautiful piece IMO. However I am still waiting for the opportunity to get some use out of it. In the interim I'm looking for a nice gold/gold coloured chain that would suit it and secure it to my clothing when I am using it. Anyone in the forum know where I can source something? This is a photo of the piece in question Cheers!
I bought one on EBay years ago for a watch passed down to me. A quick search shows there are still tons there, mostly gold filled, but that’s more than adequate. And the prices are still good - $50 or less. A vintage watch deserves a vintage chain.
There are a number of different styles of pocket watch chains to consider. There are more options if you will be carrying the watch in a vest pocket rather than in a watch pocket. https://www.pinterest.ca/pin/461619030537638797/ https://www.amazon.ca/Pocket-Watch-Chains/b?ie=UTF8&node=7012504011
Chain for a waistcoat pocket or a leather albert for a jacket breast pocket? In chain I would endorse earlier comments about EBay etc and you'll want to think about a single albert - button hole to one pocket or double albert which puts the watch in one waistcoat pocket and a fob in the one on the opposite side. You'll also want to think about finding the right weight of chain to complement your lovely new watch: too heavy a chain will just look wrong but a chatelaine chain will not be strong enough to take a watch. Here's a very pleasant site to do some window shopping at the very least: https://www.oxfordpocketwatches.co.uk/phdi/p1.nsf/supppages/5493?opendocument&part=19
Here in Australia I have paid anywhere from $50 to $900 for watch chains. This is a nice combination, the watch a La Phare from 1900 and the chain from a little later. The watch is valued at about $1500 and the chain and fob around $300
Thank you all for the feedback and suggestions. Now the search begins for that perfect balance you all mention above. Cheers.
