Hi OF Rolex crew

A friend inherited this watch on his grandfather's death and believes that it dates from the 30's. There were no markings on the caseback so just pic of the dial below... crown was missing (replacement came from local jeweller so assume is incorrect...)

Any insights that I can pass on would be much appreciated...

With thanks,
Martin

Most of the insight will be found in the inside of the caseback and on the movement. My guess is a Denisson case (i.e. UK made) and a refinished dial

I am by no means an expert...but shouldn't the reference number and the serial number be on the case, between the lugs. You'll have to remove the strap.

That only applies to Oyster cases, this is a fancy lug case which was most likely put together by a boutique in the 1940s. As stated above, it is probably a Denisson case. The markings will be on the inside of the case back.
