Hello to all ,

this is my first post even do I have been reading you guys for a while. Greating to all from Spain.
I have been collecting vintage omega & UG for a couple of years, 2 days ago I bought from an old men that had an stock from a watch store of his uncle. The watch is mint except the dial that has some spots and a minor dig on the case (I suppose they opened the watch and the knife damage the case). From the serial number I can see that the case is Chrome plated , is it plated on stainless steal? who was manufacturing cases for UG at that time? I still had no chance to take the watch to my watchmaker for a service (cleaning and oiling) but even do keeps time very accurate. I guess is a caliber 262. Size 34mm.
I really appreciate some comments from you expert guys.
the pictures are not very well done, I'm planing to get a light box to make a better ones. Hope that with the pictures that I am sharing you get enough .
thanks,
David

Welcome.
Nice watch indeed.
A pic of the movement and of the inner caseback would help

Thanks, I'll do that once I get the watch open and serviced.
do you know why the dial got those black spots? is the painting cracking??

Lovely watch. Welcome.

Perhaps there was some moisture in the watch at some point causing damage to the dial, but the effect is still very attractive in my opinion.

Your UG kind of reminds me of an original version of a Jungans Max Bill. Awesome watch yours is, love the style and those case lines seem reasonably sharp to me.

Hi David. Very nice watch. I have one that is in as good condition as yours and the dial has also aged liked yours. It has a cal. 262 and is from the early 40s. It's one of my favourite watches.

I guess no Swiss at the bottom of the dial is normal for this model ?

Jonatan , nice to see my twin brother online :O)
as I bought from an old stock , I could understand why had the spots and the other one near by had nothing. Now I understand.
Still I haven't serviced the watch and it's keeping very accurate time , about yours?

did you had any issue with the case... it's my first chromed plated case (as per the reference of the watch is supposed to be chromed plated)
mine is in perfect conditions but I have been reading that people don´t like them and prefers stainless steel...?

thanks Vujen,

there is any special care that should be aware? I see that I have small digs from opening the case, there I can see with the magnifying glass some green color I guess from the brass

Well, let's say that a service, in order to clean case and oil the movement, is absolutely mandatory.
Apart from that, of course a chrome plated watch is not as reliable as a steel one. But I don't think you should need any special advice, except of course to enjoy it! 😉

Done! enjoying is what I like to do most :O) and it's free once you already spend the money getting the watch :O))

Case looks good. Just get it serviced and try not to bang it or scrape on anything.

thanks Larry, I always care on my watches but if scraping or banging happens is due to an accident :O(
by the way I love your dog :O) he/she seems to be steering on us lol

The chrome plating is only an issue if you intend to wear the watch frequently or knock it around - there is not much inherently wrong with plating, it is just not as stable as stainless steel or gold.

Fantastic looking watch!
