Help needed with vintage Omega Seamaster

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone could assist me in authenticating this watch. I’ve been hunting for a vintage Omega for the longest time and this is the best one I’ve come across. The gentleman selling this was very transparent and did not hesitate to open the watch for me to have a look. Hope the pictures I’ve attached will be enough.
Thanks in advance!

If you have a few close up pictures of the dial, this would probably help. Similar distance as the back case (or closer)

unfortunately I’ve left the place now but this is the closest I can zoom into the picture. Hope it helps! I can always go back for clearer pictures and the extra piece of mind

Add the cost of a thorough service, including a replacement for the crummy (crumbly) case back gasket to the purchase price, and decide if you can stomach the total cost!

If everything else is in order I’d be happy to accept those add-ons

The Omega could be close to 60 years old. Cost of servicing will include any parts that will be required. Maybe ask about the seller’s return policy. You would need to have the opinion of someone experienced in vintage mechanical watches (and an Omega parts account). If you don’t like the cost of servicing, return the watch if you can.

Yes it original and correct, although the bracelet end links (and presumably the bracelet itself) is not Omega.

The watch head is fairly nice. Whether it’s a buy depends on price.

Thank you for the insight! Please could you provide any details on the skepticism around the bracelet? My father also has his doubts about the bracelet so I’d love to know what makes the links and/or the bracelet suspicious.

Bracelets would have been signed on the buckle and end pieces numbered. Looks like a beads of rice bracelet

The Endlinks simply aren’t Omega. They’re not stamped and not of the design used by Omega.
The bracelet may be Omega. We’d need better pictures including of the clasp. However, I think this is also generic.

There is nothing wrong with the bracelet, assuming its working well- it just doesnt seem to be original Omega- so it doesnt add the $200-300 value of original Omega BOR- but it is attractive and suitable for the watch IMO
If you wish to share the asking price you can get opinions on the deal

Hi everyone. After much consideration, I’ve decided to pull the trigger and get the watch. I tried my best to use your diagnosis of the bracelet to get a discount. Ultimately, we settled on £370/$470. The watch is a joy to wear, but something definitely feels off about the bracelet. I’ve attached additional photos of the bracelet if anyone has any conclusions.
I also noticed that the logo is skewed just a haaair toward the bottom right. Am I crazy or does anybody notice it too? Is it any cause for concern?

This looks like an original Omega 1068 bracelet, with unmarked AM end links. According to this useful chart, your watch ref 165.002 came with a slightly different bracelet 1037/570 (570 endlinks)

https://omegaforums.net/threads/case-bracelet-endpiece-list.81618/

Your bracelet is very similar to the 1037/570 here is picture from EB listing
And also the listing

Personally, I would use the $300 for a service and enjoy the watch with your current bracelet, as I can hardly see a difference. But if you really want an example of the original bracelet/endlinks then it will cost about 300 for a nice one, but keep in mind it will not be the exact original bracelet that came with the watch anyway-
Nice watch enjoy it and hope this helps

That bracelet isn’t vintage Omega. The link construction is completely different to that seen on Omega beads of rice bracelets.

Thanks @Davidt I defer to your assessment- I thought the inner clasp markings were good

The clasp to me looks very suspect. I guess there’s a 1% chance that it’s a weird service clasp but I don’t think so.
The main issue is the links. Compare genuine (top) to OP bracelet (fake imo).

The ends of each double pin section on the real deal are solid, and hold the two pins in place which in turn support the 7 folded mid links. They also have a facet on the outer edge.
On the OP bracelet, the end sections are all all crimped/folded like you see in cheap, modern bracelets. It lacks the finesse of a genuine Omega bracelet.

Bracelet and service issues notwithstanding, you have a very nice vintage Seamaster at a fair and reasonable price.

Good catch!

Regardless of the bracelet, its a great clean watch and you got it for a good price. You enjoy wearing it and that's what matters. Congrats on your purchase!
