Hi all,

I found this Watch this week and immediately fell in love with it. I want to buy it but have not idea what a fair price would be. Can anyone give me some advice? Many thanks

Seamaster 2975-6 from 1958. The crown is original but lost it’s gold cap on the end.

Your research has shown you so far?
Could not find a lot of info about the 2975-6 model. Prices are very different so was hoping that someone can tell me a bit more on this forum 😀. Thanks!

What would you max pay for it?

That's not relevant since it has to do with a lot of personal things, such as perhaps taste, nostalgia etc etc. Since I have no want or need for it I'd obviously pay nothing at all. Is there a reason you won't tell the asking price? I just wanted to help as there objectively are a reasonable number of valid points one could bring up if the price is to high.

Thanks for your reply. The asking price is not fully known yet. The owner told me something between €1K - €1.1K.

Is it a gold-capped case on SS? Gold filled? 18k solid gold? 14k gold? Photos from other angles? Serviced? Buying from private seller or dealer with warranty? Try a little harder if you're serious about getting help.

What I can say though is that I wouldn't buy it without seeing the movement first. I think the watch is rather appealing with white cross hair dial in gold so if I wanted it as a wearer, not collector, I'd start talking to the seller about it being overpolished, ie the sharp edges of the lugs for instance rounded, and the fact that it's gold capped (most likely) which lessens the value. I'd keep schtum about the fact that the dial, in this pic at least, looks original.

Unless white cross hairs are supremely collectable, I don't know if they are, I'd say around 600$. (not less though) But again, movement pics first.

Being very new to this and recently been in a similar position as the OP, here is what I would add:
- Be patient for the right watch and sale and educate yourself. I had multiple watches I was looking at but didn't have much of a strategy on what I wanted or no knowledge on how to initially evaluate a listing. Ultimately I waited and the right opportunity presented itself.
- Buy the seller. Many of these vintage pieces are posted on r/watchexchange and watchuseek, but as you can see in some various recent posts that there are scams and fakes out there.
- Always get good quality photos and a timestamp of the whole watch including the movement and caseback. This should not be a problem with a good seller in possession of the watch.
- Price - well, I am learning on this one, but I would pay a bit more if it met the above criteria rather than trying to get a great deal.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the information. As you might have noticed, I am very new to this topic so appreciate the help. The seller is not a dealer but a collector. He told me that the watch just got serviced, but cannot send a picture of the movement as he cannot open the case himself (it is pressed instead of screws). The watch is gold plated. He is asking €1K but I don’t want to buy anything without seeing the movement

Case looks pretty beat up and worn, maybe 500, no way 1000, nice dial though.

I think it is gold-capped, the back looks like SS, but it's definitely rough. I agree with @X350 XJR pricewise.

The gold has worn away on the front of the crown as well. Nice watch but well used.

Ya if you have a k to drop you can probably do better. Often it’s legit that collectors don’t have tools to open the watch and show movements but when I get things serviced they usually include many pictures of the service. I try to save those. Seems common practice these days. But anyway you mentioned you are new to collecting good your asking questions and what not. I think it’s much to easy to jump too quick on things early on. Are you specifically seeking a vintage seamaster or did this just catch your eye. The dial is nice.

The more pics I see the more I'm starting to really like the white crosshair dial with gold and since I haven't seen many of those around, what I'd be willing to pay is starting to increase.....
