Help Needed -- Recently Purchased 145.022-74 from Crown & Caliber

Hello All,

First time poster and vintage Omega buyer.

Questions: I've included as many photos as I could, can anyone help confirm if (a) this watch is all original; (b) why the lume plots seem to be empty; (c) is the dial correct; and (d) if the tachy is correct?

Background: I would greatly appreciate some help with this watch I recently purchased from C&C. The purchase price seemed too good to be true for a 70s speedy (sub $3,500), so I pulled the trigger. However, now that I have it in my possession I believe there is something funky going on with the lume, and the chrono hands in the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock subdials don't seem to match the hand in the 6 o'clock subdial.

I have thirty days to return it at no charge if i don't remove that red sticker (which doesn't allow me to show photos of the movement, but it seems to be running ok; I wound it yesterday and it has been keeping accurate time through today.

Thanks in advance for your time and your help!

Hi,

still a beginner at Speedies but I try:

Bezel and dial are correct for a 1974

At the 6 o'clock subdial I see staining (maybe from oil) so maybe the sudial hand suffered from that oil also

Lume color seems to be consistent, just lume loss at hour and minute hand.

Original condition IMO

Waiting for comments from more experienced members 😀

Welcome to the forum! Seems correct, little greenish hour indexes but that happens sometimes. Dial, bezel and hands are the correct ones. Can't see the Omega logo on the plexy and the inner ring doesn't seems to be black, so this could be replacement parts.

My 74 says hello:

I cannot think of something fundamentally wrong either.

I cannot see the logo either and I vote for replacement part too. Also the patina of the chronograph hand is quite different to the rest IMO. It is possible that it was replaced at one point, but still by a tritium one.
In the end, it is nothing to be alarmed about

I assume that the movement serial that C&C provided is correct for the reference?

Seems normal to me. Price reflects the condition but not bad for a daily wearer. Sometimes C&C has good prices.

Do you have a movement shot from C&C?

Personally I don't love the patina loss around the hand stems.

Green lume is fine for a 74. Here's mine that I picked up for around that price from OF. (I think your's should be a bit cheaper)

If you do decide to keep it, buy some polywatch. That crystal will shine right up.

The lume colours on this 74's is normal for a 70's Speedmaster. It looks original to my eye.

But the chrono hands for the minute and second subdials look like service hands.

Thank you all for your replies, a very warm welcome to the forum indeed! The price was $2,998 + tax, which is why perhaps I was questioning if it was all original (as I hadn't seen a 145.022 for under $3,200 since I started looking for one earlier this year).

Movement serial provided was 31001xxx, which dates it to about '72-'73 if I'm not mistaken? This is the C&C link: https://www.crownandcaliber.com/products/omega-speedmaster-professional-145-022-10-10-ome-1rz036

31 is the correct range, so it could be a early 74. Mine is a 39. 31 could be also 71 or 69SW. It would be helpful to see the inner caseback, to see if there is written 74 ST inside. I think the lume colour of the hands was all identical yellowish. The loss of lume is average, but the loss of white colour from the hands looks like a rough craftmanship.

I thought that was a DON bezel at first, but it seems to be a very well placed chip lol

Great pick up for the price. Looks good to me. The hour hand lume is interesting near the post. Seems like a few flakes found a new home.

I won’t speak to the details as many know more than I do, but I think C&C is a fine place to shop so I wouldn’t worry at all! Lovely speedy 😀

Wear the heck out of it. A vintage Speedy for sub $3k is not a bad buy.

I would replace or relume the hour and minute hand when I sent it in for a service, but I like the chronograph hand lume and think green dial lume is a nice change from the yellow.

Not bad at all! The price mentioned above, I believe, is good for the head only. Knowing it did also come with an original 1171 bracelet, I would nominate it to be a great deal, especially having bought from a dealer. Well done!
