My wife either wears this Sinn 456:

Her Nomos Tetra:

Or this vintage DateJust:

She hates diamonds on watches, so at least I get a break in that regard! Although she is very hard on watches, so the DJ in particular has been on my bench a few times due to the knocks and bumps it has received...it gets the most wrist time generally.

Cheers, Al

Come on guys... get whatever watch makes your wife the happiest. Personally, I couldn't care less if it's powered by quartz or the tears of a thousand Pandas. Sure, the dial on that Breitling makes me want to throw up a little bit, buuuuut. Happier wife == less scrutiny of your own purchases! 😉

By the way, my wife is very attached to her quartz Longines, so much so that she refuses to look at anything else.

My sister in law actually rocks the exact same model D series 116520 white dial Daytona I wear, looks hot on her!
can I say "pictures or it didn't happen"? (of the hot sister-in-law that is)

You do realize that this could be his brother's wife, right?

I'm going on the record here.

a) Windy wanted a Breitling quartz Starliner for the same "Ooooo, shiny!" reason. The magpie gene is more dominant in females than males, but luckily women can be reasoned with. I would happily spend up to $2k on a new quartz watch with diamonds (ala Tag Aquaracer) for the better half, but anything over that is plain silly. Look for a pre-owned version for 1/4 the price or less and have it overhauled so it's back in "ooooo, shiny!" condition.

b) The new Ladymatics are hot looking watches. Windy digs the black dial and stainless model.

c) If you had any forethought in you the last time you went furniture shopping, you bought the long couch. 😉

Windy must be reading over his shoulder

Maybe I should have said "bargained with". 😁

Bought off, maybe? You know, like a ransom.

Interesting where this thread has gone...I must agree with the idea of giving your wife what she wants. Unless she shares some hard core love/passion of watches, then she may like any of a number of pieces. And I really doubt she will care if its battery driven ("I don't have to reset it every time I use it"-my better half discussing her quartz Tissot) or automatic (she wanted a "shiny" gator strap to go with the nice SS case and white dial of her Movado 1881), as long as it keeps good time and looks great with her wardrobe.
So, back to Canberra, while I agree that 6K for a battery Breitling is over the top for us, it may be perfect for her! And may peace reign in your household for sometime...call it an investment against (your) future purchases!::psy::

"I don't have to reset it every time I use it"-my better half discussing her quartz Tissot

Doc - thanks for bringing this aspect up...

In my house, I set the watches. Yes I have taught my wife how to set her watches, but inevitably the watch gets handed to me in the morning and she says "Can you set this for me please...honey..." and I end up setting her watch every time she decides to change watches. So getting her a quartz watch may save YOU some time Stu...she can just pick it up and go after a weekend. My wife takes her watch off as soon as she gets home every night, and rarely wears one on the weekend...

Cheers, Al

Funny, that's exactly what my wife says about her quartz Tissot as well... though she's been eyeing my square Omega of late.

I keep trying to convince her to try wearing it or the Connie but she keeps worrying she'll damage them and get me upset!

😀 Argh. Now she's back on the breitling and she says she likes some of you more than the others....

In all seriousness thanks for the feedback and suggestions.

Hey Stu - you need to get your wife one of these:

I was emailing with my Omega parts person this norming about a gold part for a watch, and I said it was probably going to be steep since it was gold. She told me that she sold the most expensive parts she has ever sold this week - a bracelet for the Ladymatic above:

Price for just the bracelet was $44,000! Yikes! 😲

If its what she wants let her go for it.

I bought my wife a Longines quartz..... someone who isn't into mechanical watches isn't going to care for one properly (her last watch died in the washing machine..... on the second attempt) She's pleased as can be with it.

If it makes her happy, let her be happy. But remember to point out your helpful and easy going ways at this time if she should, sometime in the future, foolishly complain about the Grand Lux you're eyeballing.

PS: don't let her go shopping with Al.

We did The OMEGA boutiques in bond St/regent St yesterday. Apparently the ladymatic is too large, the aqua Terra looks to sporty and the constellation bracelets are 'yucky'. The quest goes on. And Al, as fritz says, if you come over I'd love to meet up but I wong let you take her shopping.... To be fair, I have sympathy with all her points.
