I was just given this watch which was my grandfather’s and had been in the safety deposit box. I believe he had it in Europe before World War II and as a Jew running from the nazis he somehow saved it and brought it to Canada. Can you help me date it?

Is it the pocket watch in your profile picture? A larger image will definitely help assessment, but in order to be sure you'll need to post a photo of the serial numbers on the inside of the case and on the movement. The serial number guides online are for the movement serial and will help establish when it was produced 😀

Certainly a pre-war item.

I have a watch that is just uder 4M where the movement was allegedly created/introduced in 1917, so take that into account.

15 jewel movement and case in that condition should bring a premium were you to go insane and sell it.

I don't think I ever would, but what do you think it might be worth? It has too much sentimental value but still interested to know.

I couldn't begin to calculate it. That dial and case are a perfect match with matching enameling. The hands look to be original. The enamel is intact near as I can see. It's not very worn.

When we see Omega pocket watches, they're usually worth a few hundred. I wouldn't be surprised if this one approached USD1000, or even more.

The usual search is eBay completed listings.

Look under the balance, there should be a number stamped there (if it's late enough). That might help.

It is a 14K gold case with an uncomplicated movement. The enamel/lacquer work and condition is surely a plus, but I'd still be fairly surprised if the value is more than marginally more than the gold value.

Going by the serial number chart, the production date is around 1922.

Hard one to judge on value as pocket watches just haven’t been fashionable for a long time, saying that, it’s a beauty and in the right auction room it could go north very quickly.
