Help me confirm if this watch I purchased is authentic

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out if a watch I recently purchased is authentic. I read through a bunch of forums, looked at the vintage catalogue on Omega's site, and looked at different reputable dealers, I couldn't find any watch that matched this look exactly, even when I found models with similar specs.

Pictures attached, here is the ebay link, and info below from the seller (TampasVintageWatches). I love the look of this watch, and made an offer of $530, and it was just accepted today. Wo I've already been charged and it will ship soon, but they do allow 30 days to return, so it's not too late to send it back based on what I learn from you all.

Description from seller:
Vintage Omega 1956 Seamaster Ref
Patent 315.164
Ref. 2846 2848
Cal. 501 Stainless 34mm Mens
In looking at photos I see the it also says 3SC under the 2846 2848 numbers

Any help or advice would be so greatly appreciated, thanks so much.

Mark

Did you ask them if the dial had been repainted?

Badly water damaged watch inside and out , I hope this is what you wanted, with a repainted dial as a bonus.

You really should inquire before purchasing the watch. It does appear to be an authentic Omega, but the crown and second hand are replacements and it appears as though the dial has been repainted. Overall the condition is quite rough. My advice would be to return it if possible.

The listing makes no mention of the dial. Since there is a 30 day return policy, I would have it at the post office tomorrow morning.

Thanks everyone, emailed the seller to cancel the order/ return it. I will come back here for advice next time I am about to buy one. This one looked like a good deal based on the prices I had been researching. I made an offer of 530 when it was listed at 750, just figuring what the heck I'd see if the seller was eager to get rid of it and I could get a bargain.

Cheers,
Mark

I would bet they were eager and happy to get rid of it at $530. In fact, anything over $50, probably.

TampasVintageWatches looks like they source all their watches from the Redial of the Day thread.

The placement of the minute hashes relative to the indices really makes you ponder how subjective time can be.

I love the logo on top of the writing. C’mon, at least make an effort! 🤦
