Help identifying this watch model

Hi everyone -

Hope all is well.

I’m hoping someone can help me with identifying the model number of a watch my Dad is giving me, picture enclosed, please.

I know he’s had it a long time, maybe 30 years at least.

If someone can identify it, it would be great if someone can also let me know a rough idea of value (I understand a lot of factors can apply, but a range is OK), as I just want to understand if I’ll need to separately insure it...doubt it’s worth much except for the huge sentimental value to me!

Unfortunately it’s not been worn for many years, so not serviced, just stored away, but my Dad asked me if I liked it and I do, hence him giving it to me now.

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Matt

Nice watch Matt, you can find more info about your watch when searching for Omega reference 14900. Lets do it and let us know what you found.

Welcome @mlau1294
Congratulations- You have a very nice gift from your father.
@nanjingcigaretes is likely correct, you have an dome dial, Omega Constellation, Omega’s top of the range watch, with the reference 14900 ‘dog-leg’ case - which would date it pre-1963.
Good looking dial with onyx inserts in the indices and the ‘missing text’ format script on the dial.
It should have a cal 551 movement.
Looks like the original crown.

Additional photos would help
Does it have a stainless steel caseback with a gold medallion?
If so, it has a Gold-capped case (a thick layer of gold applied to the case )
It also has a 5-row BOR (beads of rice) bracelet, which looks to be gold-plated

If you are going to wear it, you should plan on having it serviced by a competent watchmaker experienced in working on vintage watches.

Here is a link to an excellent site all about constellations

http://omega-constellation-collectors.blogspot.com/

hope that helps.

Thanks for the quick responses, nice to now know some more information about it.

It unfortunately looks like it’s lost the rear medallion, so not sure if that matters or if a replacement is needed..?

And I’m sure it’s all original, since as I mentioned not sure if it’s ever been serviced (my Dad wasn’t that great at that sort of thing)...but as suggested I’ll look for the “right” place to get it back up and running without replacing any important parts that might lose some of its originality...

Here’s a couple more photos for your interest in case it may change your opinion...

Finally, any rough idea of how much it might be worth please, assuming I get it serviced and back running (it’s not for sale though!)

I’ve recently sold a 167.005 here - gold-capped, dome dial, like yours. 14900s and 167.005s are visually basically identical, with the exception that 167.005s usually have “officially certified” on the dial. In terms of value they’re comparable I’d say. It sold for ~860€ including a croco strap, yours has an Omega beads of rice bracelet which, while not the correct style for the watch, also has a value that’s significantly more than the leather strap on mine. Serviced, I’d say roughly 1000€ is realistic, although you won’t struggle to find dealers trying to pass their examples on for even twice that.
