    Hi,

I recently inherited this watch from my grandfather. The watch originally belonged to his uncle , who received it as a gift on his retirement.

There is and engraving on the back dated 1955.

I haven't attempted to remove the case back.

I am mainly interested in trying to identify the model. Approximate value may be helpful although I have no plans to sell it.

    Thanks

    Hi @shadden and welcome.

This is a really nice watch with a great history. Thanks for sharing.

The good part is that the dial is still original and not remade/repainted. The watch has still not only emotional value to you, but is still collectible because it is still factory original. I am not sure about the crown, but those (like acrylic crystals) are supposed to be replaced eventually anyway.

To be able to give you a more specific figure, one would need to see the inside of the case back and check if that is 14k/18k gold, or gold filled. That can be seen if you take it to a watchmaker and have it opened.

The movement should be an mid 50s bumper. You probably feel a bump and a weight when you move the watch with your hand, correct?

Also, because of the form of the caseback and the fact it says only "Swiss" on the dial, I would be willing to bet it is an american cased watch..

    Best wishes,

    Rudi

    Thanks @Rudi99 for replying.

I will take it to be opened so I can find that out. Yes I can feel the weight when the watch is moved.

My grandfather's uncle who was the original owner lived and worked in America so you are probably right about it being American cased.

    Thanks
