Can anyone give me a hand with identifying the Model & Year of my grandfather's Seamaster? I don't want to open it up as it's running great with no issues.

It's just guesswork with so little information and just a couple of photos, but it could be a ref 2848. These were produced in the 50s, but we obviously can't give you a production date without a serial number.

I was thinking a 1958 but have never seen one exactly like it that had linen dial & sub-second hand with numerals that just said SWISS

It's difficult to guess the year without seeing the movement. Not a linen dial, BTW.

How could you possibly guess the year without seeing the movement? Not a linen dial, BTW. And the dial doesn't tell you the year.
Just by looking at other watches online and when my grandfather believed he bought it, BTW what is the textured dial like this actually called if you know?

Some people call it a waffle dial, but there are various textures. A watch can sit unsold for a couple of years, so the purchase date doesn't necessarily coincide with the year of production.

If it's important to you, maybe you should make the effort to have it opened. Not everything can be done on the internet.

Will do, is there anything else you can tell from the pictures that are of any importance? Is this considered a "Beefy" Lug watch? And is this considered a "Bumper"?

Move the watch from side to side and then you tell me if it's a bumper. If it's the reference we think it is, then it's not a bumper.

I hear a ratcheting noise when moved side to side??

That sounds like the rotor and auto-reversing mechanism. Google bumper automatic, and you will see that the oscillating weight doesn't spin all the way around, it has a limited range of motion and hits against springs on each side. Very noticeable feeling of bumping.

I will, lastly is this considered a Beefy Lug?

It could be for some people. That's not really a technical term.

If it could be considered "Beefy Lugged" for some people, would it be referred to as having "Big lugs" looking at this watch for vintage Seamaster identification purposes, regardless if the person a person has large or small wrists?

The usual phrase is Fat Lug. I too think it’s a model 2828. It’s not a bumper model with that caseback as the hippocampus came later than those. I too think 1958-9 is about right.

Isn’t a 2828 sweep second handed?
I would go for the 2848 post 58.
That’s the 2846

I think he’s just pointing out that you had a typo in you previous post. 2828 instead of 2848.

Ah. Quite so. 2848.

It only has a press on back and is pretty easy to remove with a case knife but I don’t expect any big surprises within.
