These stories always make me feel a little sick deep down in my gut. You obviously have an interest in vintage watches, so can I suggest that while you have (most likely) lost this watch forever you have possibly gained something. This is a great community of people with virtually boundless knowledge of vintage watches. You can stick around and learn more about that future family heirloom.

I had a casual interest in vintage watches and a year ago I inherited a vintage Speedmaster from my dad. That watch brought me here, and the community of this forum has been a small consolation for the loss of my father. It truly is a good group of people that I appreciate.

Wonder if any dial specialist could get close working off of the picture?
Besides my fruitless hunt to track down my auctioned off car, I am resolved that I won’t find an exact match. While I could certainly go through the process of working with a dial specialist like you suggest I’m considering finding a similar one to pass along. The closest one I can find for sale is pictured here.

What a wonderful response. Thank you. Through loss can come new gains. They never replace the past but allow us to move forward. I’m so pleased to hear you’ve connected with this community and it appears I’m already doing the same. I clearly have much I can learn!
