Help Identify Early Omega

Hi, folks. A friend has sent me the picture below of a watch he’s inherited. I offered to help him identify it, along with another one. This one is quite a bit earlier than the Omegas that I know reasonably well, and so I’m hoping that some of you familiar with these older models might be able to help out.

We will be getting it open to have a look, but in the meantime we’d be glad for your thoughts. Sorry the picture isn’t better.

Thanks in advance; we appreciate it.

Thanks. I spent some time on the internet trying to put a value on this - seems they are all over the place depending on condition - everything from restored examples to parts watches.

I’ve suggested he get this one serviced, replace the hands, and keep it to wear now and then as a memento. The back is curved, a nice vintage feature.

I would need a better picture but hands are likely to be original. Quite typical dial-hand combo for the 40’s.

It depends on what you mean by ‘not very high’. Certainly not in the range of a speedmaster but more than an unknown brand with an AS inside.

The name « tank » has become widely used for any rectangular case watch, no more dedicated to the Cartier model, including genuine Omega ones …

To better assess the OP’s watch, we would need better pictures (especially more in focus) of the front and of the inside (movement and inscriptions inside the caseback).

I appreciate all the help. At the moment, I’m not sure what my friend is going to do with it.

It has been fun finding out about this watch. Thanks again.
