    Hi

I'm wondering if someone can help me identify the model that this dial is from. It's a NOS Seamaster dial with a cross hair. It looks like a mix between a Rancero, an SM300 and a De Ville. The markers appear to be tritium like the SM300 and Ranchero.

I apologize for the quality of the picture.

I have the opportunity to purchase this but I have no idea what watch this belongs to.

    All help is greatly appreciated.
    Jay

What does the back of the dial look like?

If I were a betting man, I'd wager on it being a refinished dial. I don't like the dipping "r" in Seamaster for that style dial.

    A better picture would help.

Thanks - I didn't take a picture of the back. I will need to take a few more higher quality photos.

I could be wrong but I do believe that it is NOS. Here is a SM300 166.024 dial that I'm also considering as part of a package deal. Again the pic isn't the best but definitely better than the cross hair dial. My iPhone doesn't do well with micro shots.

Only these two so available, so I'm sure you'll understand if I keep it to myself.

Oh, I'm sure there are plenty more available. I'd be shocked if there isn't a whole crate of them.

Someone forgot to add the "300" to that 166.024 dial.

Bingo :) I'm sure the rest of the crate have that same omission too.

Totally agree - the word Seamaster is even tough to read in person (regardless of my bad photo job).

    Thanks again.

This is why I'm curious about where and how it surfaced, its clearly bad but its not one that's been in circulation before. The fact that they're neatly and identically packaged for sale as they are and sold as "NOS" means there are definitely more out there, if it were just a couple of redials you wouldn't expect to seem like that, would be very good to know as much as possible about them.

At this point all I can tell you is that the person who has these has owned them for quite a long time. Once I let them know about our findings I'm sure he will be as surprised as I am.

I must say however the the 166.024 had me fooled, I was excited about my find. Now I'm disappointed but glad you saved me from wasting my money.

Fair enough, could you ask them though where they obtained them when you get the chance it'd be good to know the details.

    Late to this thread, but....
Both look like phonies to me.
Nice touch putting them in the coin holders though.
The effort these people put into trying to cheat
    someone amazes me at times.

That second dial does look like a 165.002...
The tell for that one would be to look at the side of the dial, it will have a distinctive edge that goes down over the side of the movement.

    Borrowed from another thread:
[IMG]The second hand is wrong on this, BTW.

How much is the seller asking?

I'm not Familiar with this reference but I do notice that there is lume on the 12 on your example but non on the dial in question. I thought this was for a 166.024 but this 165.002 reference makes sense. The dial does look impeccable.
