Hi all, just joined the forum in the hope of finding some answers regarding an old Seamaster I've just been gifted. This is my very first vintage watch and as we know nothing of its history, I've been trawling the net trying to garner as much info as possible, and it's that search which has led me here.

From my brief bumbling around the site, I think I've got a mid 1960's Seamaster de Ville with stainless case and the crosshatch style, linen dial, a quite badly scuffed non-original crystal and non-original bracelet. Obviously I'm not going to attempt to open the case myself, so that's about as far as I can get from what I can actually see from the outside.

The watch appears to be working very well although I've only worn it around the house for a day so can't vouch for any real accuracy.

So, a few questions:
First off, do you guys think it's a genuine Omega and if so, what exactly might it be and from when?

Assuming it probably hasn't been serviced in a very long time (if at all), is it still safe to casually wear occasionally as is or might this cause unnecessary damage or wear?

If it is advised I get it serviced, what ballpark figure might I be looking at to get this work done. Honestly, I've no clue but expecting it to be more than I can guess lol. BTW, I'm located near Market Harborough, Leicetershire, UK so would I be looking at posting to watch off to a specialist or might there be someone more local to help?

I'm struggling a bit to get some nice, clear close ups and the scuffed crystal doesn't help, but here's a few pics...

Mid to late 60’s and likely ref 165.020.

the crown is correct and it looks like there’s a beautiful original dial under there. I’d look at WatchGuy, Mitka, Simon Freese or Swiss Time Services for a service. All are UK based with websites. Will be a beautiful watch when cleaned up.
