I’m trying to research a watch, and it would help if anyone here could answer a few questions about the early Mido Multichrono watches from circa 1937-1940. It should be the variation fitted with the Minerva cal 13-20 movement which has the characterically wide pusher spacing of 36 degrees. An example is the one on the left in the picture below.

    Thanks !

Actually @Tony C. may be able to help via Orologi Passoni. Most of the info online seems to be there, and the expert seems to be “fjodor”, but I couldn’t PM him when I tried. However I did notice on his profile that he’s friends with Tony C. Is it possible to get in touch with fjodor via you Tony ?

I can try to answer questions, but know far more about the multicenterchronos. Probably best to create an contact on the Italian forum and pose questions there.

    Cheers,

    Tony

    Hi Tony

It really needs to be kept private. I’ll try and sign up on OP and have a private conversation with some members. Do you know if that forum has that functionality ? I mean to have a private discussion with more than one individual ?

And from what I saw it looks like the user “fjodor” might be the resident expert, does that sound about right ?

    Best wishes
    David

Note: In the meantime I made contact with Mido and may get information from them in the next week or so.

The main thing I’d like to try and do is compile a table of case numbers vs. movement numbers. It’s made much more difficult because the movement number is on the front side (i.e. behind the dial). I know it’s going to be an extremely small data-set, but it might help with working out what i have.

The other useful thing would be to know the dial manufacturer(s), plus the depth of the caseback to help figure out if my sterile back (at least sterile on the outside)
Was produced that way, or was skimmed later.

    Hi David,

Although he may appear as a "friend" of mine, I really don't post there anymore. There is a great wealth of knowledge, so I do lurk, but the advertising and mandatory watermarks (of their own) has largely turned me off.

I could contact someone privately, but as you are looking for specific information, it would probably be more efficient for you to sign up and send some PMs. Of course you could start a thread, as well, and the hive-mind may surprise you...

Thanks Tony... I’ll first get as far as I can with Mido, then perhaps later try and get information from OP. The thing that makes it slightly difficult is that it’s a unique watch and I don’t want to break cover until I’ve finished writing a fairly complete article about it.

That’s the first blind pre-emptive dibs... and it’s duly noted :)

But I should mention there are 2-3 dibs already from the “inner circle” ;)

Haha... when I wrote that it was a toss-up between “inner circle” and “circle of trust”

Fjodor from Orologi e Passioni is a member here under a different name.... We exchanged pms when I recognized some of his watches, I’ll try and retrieve those messages when I’m home.
    I m also an O&P member.
