HELP: Crown screws off Geneve and hands not moving

Hi OF,

I have this vintage ladies Geneve (manual wind) which has just been serviced.

However, when I pull out the crown and try to set the time (anti-clockwise) it isn't catching. The crown actually screws off the watch. The hands do move though when I turn the crown clockwise and it does wind when crown is pushed in. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

Just serviced, you say? Is there any answer other than to take it back to whoever serviced it? This is not a problem you can solve by yourself. The crown was not properly tightened onto the stem. That’s a warranty job.

The watch was serviced in Australia but I’ve just moved to NYC so I’m keen to avoid sending it back to Oz if I can....

A competent watchmaker should be able to fix it easily.

Just took to a watchmaker in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and he tightened it on the spot. All resolved. Bought this mesh bracelet as well whilst at it. Thanks for the help OF!

Good to hear. A helpful watchmaker is a good person to have on your side.
