Hi, Is there anyone out there who can tell me the date for my vintage Omega watch. My jeweller has copied down the number on the inside of the case back: 19361152. I've been on the Omega website and tried to find it but after playing around with dots and spaces i'm having no luck. I can't open it up as its a monocoque and i don't want to damage the new glass. Its a Seamaster, automatic, gold capped, no date, "pre Deville", I expect it to be early 1960's.... The number could possibly also be 1"4"361152, he's an old guy and his handwriting isn't so great! Many thanks to anyone who can help.
A 19 million movement serial number dates the watch to 1962. 14 million is probably too early for the watch from the description you've provided.
Well if he got the serial number right it would be 1962, however the number should more likely be on the movement.
Great thanks for that that's very helpful. Based on the 19 million (number produced?) do you also know the movement calibre? Thanks
No you can't tell the caliber by just the year it was made, there are many. EDIT: Unless you give it a little thought as some here did
In 1962 there were a few movements it could be. If your watch is automatic and has a date window, it's probably a 56x (560, 562). With no date it would be a 55x (550 or 552). It could be others but those are the odds on favorites by far. If it's manual wind it will probably be from the 600 series. How about a picture or two?
Thanks to you all for being so helpful, i bet you get people like me asking such basic questions all the time! This is a recent acquisition for me. I had a 1990's Omega Deville that i sold a year or so ago and have been a bit sad about it ever since. This 1962 one needed a new glass and strap but its in great nick and i can't believe that it's such a good timekeeper! I'm so chuffed with it and it looks great on.
